Default Hubcentric "centering" rings (high impact plastic vs. metal)

What's the low down on high-impact plastic rings vs. metal rings?

Which is better? Or does it even matter? Have anyone seen or experienced warped, cracked, melted high-impact plastic rings (assuming properly installed)?

Default Plastic

I have only ever seen problems with people trying to road race with plastic. Metal is better for the track any other use and plastic is fine.

On my last set of rims I had plastic centering rings. They didn't damage at all, but I did have a ***** of a time getting them off the fronts the last time, like they'd melted a bit onto the hub maybe - I used a stanley knife to pry them up in the end.

When my tranny went the day after I got my Dronells, I had to take them off and the hubrings were really hard to take off. If you take a flathead screwdriver and place it at the base of ring and tap it with a hammer, the ring will fly right off!
