18"
Would increasing wheel size to 18" on my GS300 decrease performance?
I have heard that larger wheels tend to make the car loose it's perfromance to an extent.
Although the GS300 is midly underpowered would it be able to still put out what it can.
would I have to upgrade brakes?
what type of tires could I be expecting to stick on?
I am looking at some 18" TRD rims.

to be totally honest I dont think going to a 235/40-18 will hurt any of that stuff very much. I guess you need some 18" owners to chime in here!
Those wheels look SOO different in chrome though

If that is the case, then you will have minimal performance degradation (if any) with these wheels. Now the chrome may add some weight so I am not sure.

I have 235/55/R16's now, could you perhaps tell me what tyre would be my best bet to go with these rims?

Another thing to consider is that the 255 is not a "normal/popular" config so you'll find less options in buying tires. The 245/40/18 has more selection.

The closest you can get is with 255/40/18 with OD of 26. Since these wheels are 9s, you can easily fit this tire plus it should work in the rear. I am not sure about the fronts. You can do a little search to see what people running 9s up front are running as their tire size. (I am assuming you want to keep all 4 the same for rotation purposes.)

Try the calculator out. It should answer all your questions about size.

Ok, I'm assuming your stock GS3 is running something like 225/55x16", and you want 18's same size all the way around?? I have 18's, but I run staggered. I run 245/40x18 up front. After upgrading from stock 16's on my GS400, I wouldn't do anything smaller than the 245/40x18 all the way around. And according to my tire size calculator You'd only be changing the speedo reading by .1% down. That is when your speedo reads 60mph, your actually travelling at 59.9mph.
