Default Major League Baseball is expected to suspend as many as 20 players

Major League Baseball is expected to suspend as many as 20 players, including Ryan Braun and Alex Rodriguez, after the the All-Star break according to ESPN's Outside The Lines.
The suspension would come on the heels of MLB's investigation into Tony Bosch and the Biogenesis clinic in Miami. During a meeting on June 29th, Braun refused to answer any questions regarding the allegations of performance enhancing drug use. League officials are expected to meet with Rodriguez next week.

Via reporters T.J Quinn and Mike Fish:
"Sources said the commissioner's office was considering 100-game bans for Braun and Rodriguez, the punishment for a second offense, even though neither player was previously suspended for violating MLB's drug polic

y. The argument, one source said, would be that they -- and possibly other players -- committed multiple offenses by receiving performance-enhancing drugs from Bosch and by lying about it."
According to Quinn and Fish, Bosch's lawyers have been in constant contact with league officials over the past month.

Braun out for the year...

Quote:

Major League Baseball has suspended Milwaukee Brewers slugger Ryan Braun without pay for the remainder of the 2013 season.

Braun will not contest the suspension, which was meted out for "violations of the Basic Agreement and its Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program," according to a statement released by MLB.

.....

After MLB's original meeting with Braun on June 29, at which he refused to answer questions about Biogenesis, he requested a second meeting, a source familiar with the discussions told T.J. Quinn of ESPN's "Outside The Lines." Braun, after realizing the significance of the evidence against him from questions in the first meeting, decided to meet again to strike a deal that would limit his suspension to this season, according to the source.

It is because of that deal that Braun's suspension was announced Monday, the source told Quinn. The plan remains for the rest of the suspensions stemming from the investigation to be announced all at once.

Those suspensions will include injured New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez, with the source saying the evidence against Rodriguez is "far beyond" what MLB had on Braun. The length of Rodriguez's suspension is expected to be affected by MLB's belief that he interfered with the investigation.

ARod is said to be next.
Many believe this present injury keeping him out of the line up is a lie.I believe it too.

I think that MLB, sooner or later, is going to be forced to get rid of the no-steroid rules, or simply face extinction. I myself don't approve of the practice of using it, but too many players are using banned substances....and obviously lying about it. They never will be able to keep it out of the league....and they can't suspend everyone.

I wouldn't say too many today. They'll always be a few.
Yes in the McGwire/Sosa/Bonds era it was bad but not so much today.

In fact MLB players today are not backing even minor use players when caught.Things are changing.

starting to snowball...

Whistle-blower: Not only MLB players

Fischer said he and associates have identified athletes from the NBA, NCAA, professional boxing, tennis and MMA, in addition to other professional baseball players who have not yet been identified. As far as he knows, Fischer said, Bosch had no clients from the NFL or NHL.

He said the only sports entity he has heard from was Major League Baseball.

The athletes not yet publicly named come from the documents Fischer took from the clinic, documents he said another employee asked him to take for safekeeping. The number of athletes involved with the clinic, based on what he saw and heard during his time with Biogenesis, is far more than people realize, he said.

"In just the four years that I know, it's got to be well over a hundred, easy," he said. "It's almost scary to think about how many people have gone through [Bosch's treatments] and how long he's gotten away with this."

Not sure I agree. If things are changing, they wouldn't be suspending this many guys. For each one caught, who knows how many don't?

I think just as many are using as before, it's just more players are getting caught because MLB is getting pressured into being more proactive. During the McGwire/Sosa/Bonds era, MLB turned a blind eye because the home run chase was putting butts back into the seats after the 1994 strike.

Chicks dig the long ball. Home runs and stats make you money. MLB (and other sports) will never be 100% clean.

If I'm Lance Armstrong, I am pissed by what occured yesterday.

Our lack of consistency in society is appalling. A-Rod should have been banned for life and had his home runs vacated.

That's a dangerous slippery slope. It's not as easy as bumping everyone up 1 spot in the standings.

Just 1 example is Bonds. Do you take away all his records? Even the years before he was suspected of using? Do you take away wins/championships where he helped the Giants win? It's not feasible for team sports.

An arbitrator will probably go from ARod's 211 games to 150.

Again, not sure if I agree. Even though the doping-rules may be different between MLB and cycling, Armstrong knew those rules for his organization when he joined it and started competing.

Not only that, but, even apart from the doping rules, Armstrong also has to give an account of the disgraceful way he personally treated (and threatened) people. I can see why his ex-girl friend Sheryl Crow was in a depression for so long, if (?) he also acted that way around her.

So true.

And A-Fraud is still playing games this season while the arbitration is going on. Some things just don't seem far.

ARod just can't keep his mouth shut.

It's officially become a circus! The Vince McMahon of MLB:

ARod spoke with his bat last night too...I enjoyed that HR after being targeted by Dempster, RedSox cost themselves that game by wanting to take matters into their own hands.
