healthcare house bill vote this weekend
with a majority of some 73 seats in the house, pelosi and hoyer are still struggling to come up with enough democrats to pass the worst piece of legislation in history.
some more 'moderate' democrats are unhappy that there's abortion funding in the bill.
the republicans have declared that none of them will vote for the bill.
if it passes, it will be a victory for obama, pelosi, and hoyer, although possibly a hollow one as it must then go on to the senate where their bill is different and it seems unlikely they will get a filibuster-proof majority vote (60).
if it fails, it will be a disaster for the democrats, unable to pass health care reform, which they claim most people want. yes, maybe they want reform, but certainly not this monstrosity. the bill has 'affordability' in it, when it is anything but... more red tape, so far projected at 1.2 trillion, won't actually make much change for YEARS, and due to the arm twisting to get votes, it's larded up with endless pork projects.
the democrats should be ashamed of themselves.
some simple things that WOULD make a difference and don't cost a fortune:
every day on tv there's endless ads by progressive and geico, the two titans in auto insurance. they operate almost everywhere in the u.s. healthcare insurance providers cannot operate across state lines incurring unneeded expense and dramatically limiting competition and efficiency. does the bill fix this? no. why? because the dems really want the insurance companies to die.
tort reform... implement something like loser pays on legal costs... all those frivolous lawsuits go away. is it in the bill? no. why? because trial lawyers give dems tons of donations.
the dems say the 'public option' will increase 'competition'. having a govt player isn't competition, it's a market destroyer because the govt has unlimited funds and power to win.
i could go on, and again, i believe we DO need healthcare reform, but this bill is a tragedy.

It is a lose\lose for the dems.
If they do nothing at this point it looks really bad
If they pass what is on the table we are all screwed. There are 331231231 ways they could have made healthcare better and cheaper, they took the 2000 page route which is only going to end up as a cluster bleep.

they are eviscerating Medicare, taxing the hell out of rich incomes and small businesses to pay for this. It still wont be enough money to pay for this abomination. GOP have proposed a 298 page bill, still too large IMO but a hell of a lot better than 2032 pages. CBO actually showed GOPs bill to lower premiums with no new taxes

If this monster passes, would it be possible for a next term pres to veto it? Or produce a bill that completely nullifies it? I don't know too much about these types of bills, but maybe the next term pres could introduce another bill WHICH does everything this bill was supposed to, while at the same time removing this bill from the system.

Any think tanks done any analysis on the GOP bill? I would want to know if it's realistic or toothless.

no. if a bill has passed and been signed by the current president it cannot simply be overturned or vetoed by the next president.

bills are produced by the house/senate so the next president (assuming different from obama and not wanting to keep this stink bomb) would lobby house/senate to come with a bill changing or reversing this monstrosity.

CBO looked at it already:

CBO anticipates that the combination of provisions in the amendment would reduce average private health insurance premiums per enrollee in the United States, relative to what they would be under current law-by 7 percent to 10 percent in the small group market, by 5 percent to 8 percent for individually purchased insurance, and by zero to 3 percent in the large group market. Those are averages, however, and they are subject to a great deal of uncertainty; some individuals and families in each market would see different results.

Did any of you actually listen to the procedures and on the-floor debate in the House today? I did...on C-Span radio, in my car, going down to review the new Lexus ES350 today. It was just ludicrous. Both sides, both Democratic and Republican, acted like complete morons......even the notoriously rowdy British House of Commons seemed civil in comparison.

220-215, barely passed. What a joke of a debate, one night to debate over 2000 pages? If it barely passed the House, remember they still need 60 in the Senate

I can't believe it actually passed, democratic leadership even celebrated with a victory speech saying how everything is going to be all sunshine and lollipops now.
You know, I would like to believe that but it wouldn't hurt for them to just STOP PRETENDING that everything is alright because it's NOT.
Frankly, I don't even care anymore, we are so much in debt and out of control that another trillion isn't going to do phase us anymore. Print away Feds...let's get rich!

I dunno how its going to pass in the Senate, when you need 60% there vs simple majority in the House. The House already has the bigger majority and it passed by 2 votes out of 435

Now our dishonest President can claim the House version was “bipartisan.”
