Default Excel experts. Make row 1 a header

I am trying to use row 1 as a header and start row 2 as row 1. Is there way I can do this? I am trying to avoid adding another column and making that the number column.

lol, too lazy to google?

row 2 can't be numbered as row 1. excel doesn't work that way.

row 1 (or any number of rows/columns) can be frozen. on my mac excel i go to layout tab and in window section of icons on right there's one to free headings/rows/columns.

I dont think Row 1 can be renumbered.. But like bitkahuna said, Rows can be frozen. On a PC for excel (2010) select the rows you would like to freeze, go the view, and click the "freeze panes" option. Now you can scroll infinitely while the frozen panes remain visible at the top of the window.

thanks guys. I was trying to avoid freezing the row. I ended up making a new color and using that at my rows.

Curious. Any reason why you didn't want to freeze the row?

This certainly can be done via VBA. Let me know what you need and I can make you a file top do what you want.

If i freeze the first row, it will continue to use the first row as Number 1. I was hoping to have the first row not numbered and use it strictly for a header. That way Row 2 will become my number 1.

Thanks, but my permissions are limited on excel as it is on a government PC. I was hoping to find a feature that is native to the software. I ended up just making a new column for my number sequence.

VBA is native to Excel. Surely you have access to the options tab in Excel?
