Comcast is showing it scheduled for the Velocity Channel at something like 6 am tomorrow morning and running for hours. I don't think they'll be able to make that schedule as their site shows the mission delayed until Sunday or Monday. Monday's forecast for Roswell looks ideal with W to NW winds at 2mph between 6 and 8 am.

this is going to be an awesome feat! hopefully he can pull off the longest free fall from 120,000 feet to 5,000 feet.

It's all about the integrity of the balloon that will haul Felix Baumgartner to altitude for the jump. That balloon has the thickness and structural integrity of a plastic dry cleaner's bag, and it cannot withstand buffeting from even moderate winds. Add to this the criticality of getting 700 feet of plastic bag a large recovery 'chute, and the capsule with Baumgartner off the ground without dragging and dribbling him down several thousand feet of runway, and you get the idea. Winds under 3 kts. are ideal, and by Sunday morning, they should lay to the point that the launch can take place safely.

I hope he is bringing a parachute then, it would be devastating if the balloon failed.

According to their site, any failure below 1000' would neither allow sufficent time to fully deploy the capule chute nor allow Felix to bail out and deply his chute.

^ Between seriousness and jokes is a thin line called sarcasm.

I am still waiting for the mighty jump. Bets are already made
