Default need your help.. my car got hit and run

one of the most frustrating things that can happen to anyone's car.. my car was parked in a parking lot and i was eating inside the restaurant, came out to find out someone swiped both driver front and rear doors.

fortunately my friend happened to see the truck who hit me and got the license plate of the driver. i have the police report but now i need advice and help on where to go next. cops tell me to contact him but not sure if that's the best idea. i googled the address but it's like 2 hours away from the place we were, hopefully the car wasn't stolen but i'm not sure. if he denies he hit me i need either his birthdate or driver's license number in order to take him to civil court.

here is what i have so far..

2007 Ford F-150 (grey)
Oklahoma license plate #: 837HCZ
Oscar Estrada

Call your insurance, it's not your job to track and chase people. You have a witness so the police should at least take the statement. People suck these days, sorry to hear about this.

Check and see if he's on FB, there could be a chance he posts his birthday on there.

I don't get why the police aren't contacting him? Isn't hit and run a crime?

95% of cops are worthless. i have yet to meet a genuinely nice one. i'll be contacting my buddy that owns his own state farm in another state so he can direct me on where to go.

Sorry to hear, people suck and have no conscious when they do stuff like this. Let the insurance company handle this. Confronting people who can readily leave the scene can be an iffy situation and this best avoided.

This case has nothing to do with the law enforcement's competency or niceness

The police can't prosecute unless you can ID the driver.

I witnessed a hit-n-run on a parked car so the day afterwards I dropped by the home (this house had 4 BMWs, and it was a 650 that I got swiped) to tell him what I saw, the license plate number, etc.

He filed a collision report with the police and the rough estimate for his repairs came out to about $1K --but because it was at night time and I didn't get a visual on the driver, the license plate alone wasn't enough to press charges, since without a proper ID on the driver, the other party can deny being the driver even if the vehicle is registered to their name.

And the owner of the BMWs even had a buddy at the local PD.

Hmm - over here in TX, I thought that the owner of the car is held responsible for any damage caused by his/her car - even if the driver's identity can't be confirmed. (at least that's what the news teams indicate in hit/run accidents where people are injured)

I'm not sure why the cops wouldn't at least follow up to see if the other car has had corresponding damage on their car
