Nice Monster. Loved those beasts.

I sold motorcycles in my previous life so had an opportunity to ride some great bikes. BMW (R1200C was my favorite), Ducati (Monsters were my fave), Triumph (Speed Triples rocked), Kawasaki (meh), Yamaha (R1s.. what else?), Suzuki (GSXR 750's) and Honda (CBR F4s at the time were crack) so always had a different bike everyday. My OWN bikes were sportbikes up until this past year. Below was my favorite which I sold last May and still regret it since I know the guy who has it now will wreck it being stupid.

94 CBR F2

Last May I decided after 19 years it was time to get a big boy bike. Since I'm not a fan of Harley (no disrespect) I went the Japanese route with the Raider S. A 1900 v-twin has no substitute for torque

I'm jealous of the Monsters!!! Im currently looking to get into biking. Wish I could get a monster but I want to start out with a ninja 250r, but people tell me that I will grow out of it quick though. Maybe r6?

My favorite bike though is the Ducati street fighter.

Multistrada 1200 for sure. It's a lot faster and more functional; it's very confident for a tall bike. Just took her from Los Angeles to Phoenix this past weekend with lots of comfort.

The Monster was great fun. Lighter and more agile. I can really push it enthusiastically. Ergonomics was too punishing though. I too took the Monster from L.A. to AZ a couple of years ago, and that required a lot of medication.

Before that, I had a Multistrada 1000. That was actually a perfect blend of rideability, ease, and functionality. Yeah, it wasn't pretty nor powerful, but she was the best "everyday" Ducati you could buy. I miss that bike...

Not to go down a new rider path but a 250r and and R6 are COMPLETELY different monsters. My first bike in '92 was a VERY used '87 Honda VFR 750 Interceptor. Big bike for a first bike but I learned a lot and wasn't afraid to drop it... which did happen thanks to an idiot driver. There are better choices for first rides which I believe have had some discussions in here somewhere or just start a new thread and I'm certain many experienced riders can/will add their input.

First and foremost, take the MSF Class! It will save your life, not to mention let you learn about motorcycle control and road manners.

Try to find a Ducati Monster 620. They're very approachable as first bikes, but maintenance and insurance costs may be of concern. Naked bikes are less aggressively tuned than full fairing bikes in general. I would never recommend an R6 as a first bike; it's too torque-y.

I've always been a fan of Suzuki SV650 as a beginner bike. That was what I learned with, and that's what I always recommend. Cheap to find used too...

I'll second both the MSF class AND the SV-650
