She's no Elvis. LULZ......

I like her better than elvis, which I never got into at all... I am actually a whitney fan up till the late 90's. ...........but yeah essentially she's just another coke'd up dead celebrity. Never heard of one of those before............ It's a shame and a waste.

In her Barbara Walters interview she said "I am my own devil, nobody makes me do it.... I do it to myself".

+1, there are plenty of places on the internet to make fun of other's misfortune and sadness. Let's take that stuff elsewhere please.

A great voice with so much talent. Generations have enjoyed her music and will continue to do so. It is a shame that her career and life had to be cut short due to her problems, but the ears won't judge Whitney Houston for anything other than her music.

OK. I gotta say she had immense amazing talent and a good background and seemed like a very nice person. But too much exposure to bad culture seems to have been her undoing. We will see in the fullness of time if that is the case. RIP Whitney and God bless...

1. RIP - thoughts and prayers are with her daughter and family
2. IMO, Bobby Brown got her started down the wrong path (to drugs & addiction)
3. she lipsync'd the National Anthem at the Super Bowl (not a putdown, just FYI).

lol @ comparing her to Elvis. It is sad that she passed however her lifestyle ultimately is what lead to her end. she was a phenomenal singer and no one can take that from her.

from TMZ...

Whitney Houston's family was told by L.A. County Coroner officials ... the singer did not die from drowning, but rather from what appears to be a combination of Xanax and other prescription drugs mixed with alcohol ... this according to family sources.

We're told Coroner's officials informed the family there was not enough water in Whitney's lungs to lead to the conclusion that she drowned.

Our sources say the family was told Whitney may well have died before her head became submerged.

And family sources tell us ... it was actually Whitney's aunt, Mary Jones, who discovered Whitney's body in the bathtub. Mary had laid out Whitney's dress for the evening on the bed and the left for about a half hour. When Whitney didn't come out of the bathroom, Mary entered, pulled Whitney out of the tub and began administering CPR.

And we're told ... Whitney's mom has arranged to have the singer's body flown back to Atlanta, as early as tomorrow. The family was told the Coroner has no problem releasing the body because there is no evidence of foul play -- and unless cops put a hold on the body, it can be flown back East.

Given Whitney Houston's drug history, it's too easy to jump to conclusions about her cause of death. Commentary on her lifestyle should wait until we have more authoritative information than the speculation of a few tabloid sources. What we should remember at this point is Whitney in her 1986-1997 prime, the blazing talent and the voice that was simply stunning. For now, we pray for the peace and comfort of her family. Hopefully there will be some lesson we can draw from this life cut far too short.

The same should go for Whitney. Why wouldn't she deserve equal respect?
she will always be remembered and respected as having a massive talent, but lost her way, JUST LIKE ELVIS. neither could handle fame and fortune and weren't able to find or accept good advice from others. and neither did anything noteworthy (as far as singing) in the last decade or more of their lives. ultimately they're quite similar. very sad.

it's quite common actually.

Kathryn Holm McManus, former executive director of the orchestra, in an interview with St. Petersburg Times in 2001, reaffirmed that, saying "At the game, everyone was playing, and Whitney was singing, but there were no live microphones. Everyone was lip-synching or finger-synching.

The L.A. Coroner's office said preliminary-results look like a lethal alcohol/prescription-drug combination....but this is not final.
