Costume makers have found a bonanza in Halloween this year. I'm a little more than shocked at what is being sold as appropriate for pre-teen girls . . .

Click the image to open in full size.

They get a lot worse . . . skimpy French maid outfits, etc. are being sold, not just for adults, but for pre-teens. That's generally considered to be ages 9-12. Kids see it as glamor, but there are adults out there who could see it as provocative on a 9y/o. OK maybe for adults, but some of the more egregious costumes could only be appropriate in a strip club. Sending young kids out on the street dressed in some of the worst of these costumes is just plain dangerous. As a dad, I'd go along dressed as . . .

Oh, and yeah I am south of Pasadena-- I haven't heard much about this Zombie walk though. I just was told it involved people dressed up like zombies and airsoft guns. And I do enjoy both! ^_^

As for the costume question, I'm still undecided, but the group of friends I'm going to Vegas with has decided on a Nintendo theme. So far we have:

1. Mario
2. Luigi
3. Waluigi
4. Mushroom (red)
5. Mushroom (green)
6. Yoshi
7. Wario
8. Link
9. Zelda
10. Samus

What else is there? Currently, I'm going as Scorpion and my gf is going as Mileena (from Mortal Kombat), but we won't be part of the theme.

I got an ebay problem.

I the shirt that I wanted, I was only able to purchase it with the Commit To Buy option. After I clicked it, it says that the product won't arrive til Nov 4th (Just noticed the seller is from Hong Kong!), and I need it for Halloween!

So now, I'm committed to buy this, but I don't want it anymore cause it's gonna take too long. :/

I messaged the seller, asking him if he can cancel it or ship it to me within a week. Hopefully he's able to ship it sooner, and if not, than hopefully he cancels it.

If I have to buy it, if there is no way around it, then I will, but I really wanted this to arrive sooner.

So, I'm not doing the Mr. Incredible costume, maybe next year.

Instead, I'm gonna do the Zipper Face thing, it's gonna be super cheap to pull this off.

Already bought a zipper for $2.16.

All I need now is the face paint and something to glue this to my face, should be under $10.

My girls sister is gonna do the makeup, to blend the zipper to my skin.

One thing I'm doing different though, is that I got this beard that I'm not shaving until I put all this together. So then I'll look real legit, with facial hair on the sides, and the center of my face having no hair.

Anyway, I'll post pics of my costume come this Friday.

What sucks, is that I got a part on Friday, Saturday, and Monday, so I gotta spend the weekend having the center of my face clean shaven while the rest is my beard.

Check with a local theatrical supply for makeup. What you are looking for is probably outside the color range of regular consumer tones. While there ask the clerk for the best way to attach the zipper to your face - a product known as spirit gum does a great job of securing things to your skin and can be peeled off with a little care. It is usually used for creating scars, securing facial hair, etc.

(Tip: It's a good idea to shave close before using that spirit gum; can do a great job of "waxing" your face on removal)

As for blending the zipper into your face, look for "mortician's wax", a tintable base that can match your skin tone and be disturbingly realistic, particularly for wounds, etc.

Ask someone familiar with theatrical makeup for ideas.

I already bought my supplies 2 days ago. Check it out:

Click the image to open in full size.

Spirit Gum adhesive and remover (before and after use)
Liquid Latex
Blood Spray
Red Cream Make Up
18'' Metal Heavy Duty Zipper

^All this, cost me around $25. So much for a $10 costume, lol.

I found this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWurA...ayer_embedded#!

^She used a Foundation and CoverUp to blend in the zipper to her skin.

My girl already has all that, and she's gonna do the makeup. She also has some black makeup to have some parts be darker.

As mentioned before, I'm growing a beard, and having that is gonna make this look more authentic. Only problem is, I'm not really sure on what to wear. Probably a hoodie and a red shirt.

I'm gonna do the costume on Saturday (party), and I'll post pics of the process and the final costume later on that night.

I'm gonna be Tony Stark. Gonna put on a pin striped suit and make an arc reactor from a triple white led tap light. Total cost about $8. And I can use the tap light after halloween.

Get a big jar of cheap cold cream and plenty of Kleenex to remove the makeup. You may need more than one application. It'll remove most oil-based makeup, including greasepaint. Your skin will thank you.

Idea: Carry a spare and when the batteries start to die, ask a pretty lady to swap out your arc reactor. "It's just like 'Operation . . . '"
