thank god she doesn't have a record deal.

On an optimistic note, she sings about as badly as Katy Perry did when she was 13.
and look how katy turned up..... horrible and famous.

america is the land of dreams!!

i finally listened to the whole song.

it's not stuck in my head, thankfully.

if it's stuck in your head, go wash it out with some other music.

if her mom spent $2000 to make this video, she'll get her investment back when youtube pays her the ad money. 22 million hits = ~$20,000.

You know her? And how can a song be 'wholesome'?

I heard about 10-15 seconds of this on a radio show that was talking about it and that was too much. The hatred is because it:
  1. Starts with a nasal tone
  2. Has stupid lyrics
  3. Uses autotune
  4. Means less than nothing
  5. Is completely derivative

When a no talent such as Chris Brown (AKA the domestic violence specialist) thinks it's good, it's certainly crap. Her idol is Justin Bieber (which says she has no taste and likely got her "singing" style from him), and Simon Cowell talking about it simply because it is popular doesn't mean it's good - see also American I-dull.

The record industry whines because they aren't making money anymore - this is why. People are watching this because it's crap. They talk about it because it's crap. It may get discussed on a radio station that plays metal/hard rock (which the one I heard it on does) because it's crap. But, because it's crap, no one will actually buy it - much like the American I-dull garbage. 10 seasons of that drivel and not one of those people has become someone with staying power in the industry. I'm sure someone will give her a contract, let her burn some plastic, make some money on the sideshow she becomes, and be done with her like countless others.

But, I don't hate her or the music. It's just crap. Hate is a strong word and people who say comments about the music are fine, but commenting and making vicious comments about the girl are taking it too far, IMO.

No, I don't know her personally but the image she presents is wholesome and the song is different from what is being played as 'popular' nowadays. Unless it's underlying, I did not observe any reference to sex, violence, or bleeped out cuss words.

Perhaps my definition of wholesome is different than yours. But then I'm a frumpy old lady.

surely you jest. carrie underwood is a HUGE star. reality is that almost NO ONE new (or band) has staying power these days. the industry is too fragmented, so diffuse, etc. bieber's accomplishment is pretty amazing, even if his teenybopper pap isn't for you.

She's 13. Pretty tough to present something else unless she developed early or her parents are trashy. Can't put much stock into an 'image' being 'presented', though. There simply isn't enough information available to make that call is all I was saying.

Yes, it certainly is 'different' if by different you mean crap. Songs don't have to discuss sex, violence, or have cuss words in order to not be crap, but this 'song' is simply vapid garbage.

I forgot about her, to be honest, and most likely because I don't listen to that music. While I agree with you that staying power is very tough, there are some who accomplish it, albeit without the same levels as were possible before. In the case of that show, however, with the exception of Underwood, major flops. A lot of money went into them, but very little came back. The most news some of them have made was when the obvious was finally revealed (Clay Aiken being gay), or when they crashed and burned (Clarkson's album that she wrote was a huge disappointment in sales).

And Bieber's time is waning fast. Yes, he managed to hit it hard, but as his voice changes and the ridiculousness fades, he'll be another two hitter. He's classic overexposure.

Cool

Resurrecting this thread after what happened last night.

If you were not aware, Stephen Colbert & Jimmy Fallon have been having an ongoing thing on their shows. Stephen made a promise that Jimmy would match his donation to an organization - without consulting Jimmy (). Jimmy, in turn, told his audience that if they contributed the $26K he needed, Stephen would sing this stupid song on the show last night (being Friday night, it actually made more sense than the vapid song, but I digress). Fans came through, they raised $86K (impressive!) for the charity (called donorschoose.org if you are interested) and here is a link to the video. It makes the song tolerable, believe it or not!!

Enjoy, all.
