Default Fort Hood Shooter kills 12 (Malik Nadal Hasan)

http://abcnews.go.com/WN/soldiers-ki...ory?id=9007938

Twelve people have been killed and 31 wounded in a shooting spree at a Texas military base by what officials believe was possibly carried out by an Army officer.

The slain gunman was identified as Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, 39, a law enforcement source told CNN. Licensed in Virginia, Hasan was a psychiatrist who previously worked at Walter Reed Army Medical Center but more recently was practicing at Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood, according to professional records.

Looks as though the shooter was an officer (Major) and also a Psychiatrist.

Physician, heal thyself.

I fear there may be much more to come out of this story. Stay tuned for further developments as the investigation proceeds.

This is horrible!!! My heart goes out to the victims. I often wonder why these terrible people don't just end their own lives away from the public. It is evident a psychological ailment impairs them.

Prayers to the families. My wife's son just went to Texas for boot camp-Air Force. A but too real, but what is shocking is that these sort of things are no longer shocking. The human species needs a real serious wake up call.

Apparently the shooter is not dead but alive. Time to drag out some chains and put him up on a tree for everyone to have at him.

no, the shooter lives!!!!

he survived 4 gunshot wounds. his death isn't imminent, but he's in stable, critical care.

it's pretty ironic he was a shrink. RIP to all the victims and prayers to respective family members. this is actually a rare situation in which a flipped gunman has went on a shooting rampage and actually survived.

hopefully they pick his brain for clues as to why this happens to certain people before they fry him. Texas has jurisdiction!!!

^^^^
He was on federal property and a service member so he will more than likely fall under UCMJ and they are pretty quick just like TX, no long drawn out crap.

Unless waived by the Army (highly unlikely), Hasan will face justice under the UCMJ. That's a far tougher court than what he might face even in Texas. A military court-martial operates under considerably different rules than a civilian court, especially where rules of evidence are concerned, and his fate determined by a panel of judges.

It is possible for Hasan to ALSO be tried in a Texas court, especially if any of his victims were civilians. This is one of those odd cases where the "double-jeopardy" rule does not apply. Military proceedings are considered separate from civil trials, so Hasan could conceivably be tried and convicted by both - in this case, sentenced to be shot, then injected. The state will probably hold any trial in abeyance pending the outcome of the court-martial. If found guilty by the Army, the State of Texas probably won't waste the money on a civil case.

This is all just a guess; this is all pretty preliminary at this stage.

It turns out major Hasan was shot by a civilian police officer, Kimberly Munley. She "happened upon" the major and quickly put four bullets into him, stopping the rampage.

You go girl! Kudos to quick thinking and accurate shooting. You undoubtedly saved lives.

She was also wounded in the confrontation, but I haven't heard yet how severely. I hope her wounds are minor.

The military courts will do their job, and quickly (compared to civilian courts). Unfortunately, the fallout from Husan's actions will be played out for years, both in the families of his victims and the court of public opinion, due to his heritage.

Fort Hood shootings: the meaning of 'Allahu Akbar'
The Arabic phrase "Allahu Akbar", shouted by the Fort Hood killer Major Nidal Malik Hasan before he opened fire, is known as the takbir and is used by Muslims to express a wide range of emotions.

despite the President saying "don't jump to conclusions," it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out if what has been said so far about him is true. he was a devout Muslim VERY bitter about the U.S. involvement in Iraq, and was scheduled to be deployed to Afghanistan, and really really didn't want to go. he'd told many of his strongly held views, and he'd cleaned out his apartment before going to Ft. Hood to do the shoot 'em up, probably wanting to go out as a martyr.

the military should keep an eye out for ANY with strongly held views AGAINST that same military, and THROW THEM OUT.
