Where are these figures coming from? Are they pulling them out of their assess? I'm paying $19,000+ for tuition, and room and board at UCSC.

+ room/board adds a large chunk of change to your bill, particularly in areas with high costs of living. the article was just talking about tuition.

there are entry level bio jobs, but people with bachelor's degrees in bio are a dime a dozen so the pay is not too great.

Tuition goes up almost every scholastic year. It's a fact of college life that's been going on for as long as I can remember. Hell, I just started at a different University for Grad School and I just got a letter saying that tuition will go up every coming semester until I graduate. So, $2000 for a 3 credit hour class will be a $6000 class by the time I graduate.

The worst part of all these fee increase is that you get less and less for your money. I would be ok with it if costs and services weren't inversely proportional...

My tuition at SF State went up to $2200/semester

Cali is wanting to tax oil drilled in this state. Instead of more taxes, I think both the CSU and UC system need to do a little "bariatric" surgery at the top. I think the chancellor can give up his McMansion in Moraga or the OC and his Benz or Lex and there's a few other things to cut away as well...

Hey i go to UCSD also. I applied to a couple of states, because i dont think i can afford going here next semester if that 30% increase is going to happen. The Regents of the UC should give up some of their exotic cars and vacation houses and cut us a break.

i'm looking at a potential ~32% tuition increase just over this next YEAR.

average University of California system university's tuition will be ~$10,500 for IN-STATE RESIDENTS!!

Seeing as how the UC Board of Regents is made up of primarily businessmen/women appointed by the governator who are in NO WAY ACCOUNTABLE to faculty, staff, or students.

i'm kinda stuck trying to accept this gargantuan increase as well as figure out how in the hell i'm going to pay for it (student loans/grants/etc...willl not be proportionately increasing, some are getting cut).

cliff's notes: trying to accept that the system has no real accountability for useless UC Regents running the campus' as business, raising fees and cutting services. I'm screwed and stuck to it.

^ It is totally a business. UC Regents know that and make it so obvious. I'm a transfer and i am planning on leaving after my first quarter because i just cant afford it. On UCSD there is a new housing for transfer students. Across that building, they are building another 14 or so story building to house more transfer and new students. The one they just finished this year contains 8 buildings, one which is 15 stories. It cost a minimum of 1200 to live there. I mean cmon it is obvious what is being done here. I know UC's are pretty elite, but i can go elsewhere with my money and get a paper after a couple years, and not be in a loan debt i cant handle.

Tuition for me is $15,280 (for all three quarters I believe...I hope) because I'm considered out-of-state: I moved to CA before the start of my junior year in high school, and you need to have lived in state for three years in order to be considered a resident.

Room and board was just $4,212, although you'll have to multiply that by three to get the total.
