As much as I don't want to turn this into a Forza 3 vs GT5 thread, I'd absolutely take Forza 3 over GT5. GT5 FINALLY got damage modelling, but they only have it for SOME cars. They also don't have anywhere near the customization Forza has. Add to that Forza's auction house, online features, and livery editor, and you've got a winner. GT always seems to have the better graphics, but Forza wins in the gameplay aspect.
That said, I picked up Forza 3 last night and got myself all the way to level 10 . This game rules. They just need to DLC me a JZZ31!!

^ agreed, since GT5 isn't even released.
however, imo it's hard to judge which game has better "gameplay", especially if every gamer has differing opinions of "gameplay".
for example, if you're looking for a truly realistic sim, NFS: Shift wouldn't have very good gameplay. on the other hand, you'll get the same result for GT5 if "gameplay" = you're looking for a quick fix of an arcade-ish sim. imo, those two games are on the opposite ends of the driving sim spectrum.
so back to forza 3... imo it's a "jack of all trades, master of none", middle-of-the-road type driving sim: it'll cater to the hardcore realistic driving sim fans and the casual gamers looking for an arcade-like feel in their driving sims, but won't lean far in either direction.

So I've got my FM3 yesterday as well, one thing I don't like, the start of races, it'll rev around for you so you only have less than a second to get ready the rev for the launch... this goes the same in drag racing...
Drag racing wise, NFS Pro Street is still the best.
I found a few problems also, the 93 Honda Del Sol, they used 93-95 aux lights paired with 96-97 bumper... somebody wasn't thinking.... and the aux light is somehow orange lens too... wtf... (and drivetrain swap to FR!? why not MR? people did MR and AWD Del Sols in real life, but never heard of FR because it's stupid to do it with the stupidly short wheel base that's front heavy with no place to put rear diff other than cutting out entire trunk which will goes the same as putting engine in as well)
Body kit choice is horrible for some cars... and years are chosen badly like 95 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX, why not put in the 97-99 style? it looked MUCH better.
Eagle Talon Tsi AWD have a single exhaust that looked like it's aftermarket while the car's supposed to be stock? stock have twin pipes...
And not enough cars... there's a mention of Lexus GS400 brought by Lexus to racing in the facts section during loadings, but there's no GS400 in the game..
There's also no W215 CL, W220 S class etc... one of the better looking cars out there....
But some times it's just plain stupid things that makes the game fun, like ML63 with 65 engine, modded, lightened etc.. and can literally get a roll on every curb. lol
Oh and had anyone watched this vid, it's amazing, watch in HD.

Very good points on your 'gameplay' arguments. It's all in the eye of the beholder. Couldn't agree more.
I do disagree on the point that Forza 3 won't lean far in either arcade or sim direction. It actually does VERY well both ways.
For arcaders, you can turn on all the driving assists (assisted braking and steering, driving line, TCS/ABS/stability control) and just hold the gas the whole way round the track in 3rd person view.
For simmers, you can set the camera to the rigorously detailed interiors, turn off all the assists, and the cars handle ridiculously realistically.
Actually, now that I think about it, this game can be played in an absurd number of ways.

right now having fun with my F200 class Del Sol, stock engine, stock weight, stock type tires, but it's real fun to throw it into corners with tail hanging out in the FF. lol
And having harder time with Diablo GTR racing MC-hammers and HKS Evo, but at least I've beat them without crashing into them
