When installing it from a folder it HAS to be "c:\program files\folding@home\" because that's how it sets up the service entry no matter where the executable is. At least that's what happened here.

Also, when you look in task manager you won't see FAH running as a service. You have to look in the services control panel.
Wait what?
No it doesn't have to be in that folder.
And in task manager they *will* show up.

After you restart it will show up as a service.
And after you restart you can also see it if you go to.

Run: MSCONFIG

It does show up as a service, that's why the username is System versus 'vraa-windows'

VRAA - so it looks like you are running two console and two core versions on the same PC?

Before we continue, Dave I just want to thank you for editing my first post and what not for the announcement, thanks
No sir, the fah504-console is what I'm running.
That program calls the core, the Fahcore_**.exe might change depending on the workunit it's processing.

I have two directories, FAH1 and FAH2.

Here you can see the registry entry for the services as well as the services.msc view.

I would run the SMP client, but it's designed for 4 cores right now and it's still in beta -- my dual AMD's are too slow to do the WU's in the required time

If you have a faaaast dual core / dual cpu machine, then you can run the SMP client -- it's MASSIVE points!

I am running on THIS computer a 2.2 P4.
with 2 gigs of ram.

On my Home PC I have it overclocked to I THINK 2.5 on an AMD with 3gigs of ram. I think I will try that tonight on that one.

Do you need to UNINSTALL the console version first?

If they aren't dual core / quad core, don't think about running the SMP client, you wouldn't submit the workunits before the deadline and you wouldn't get credit.

Just as a note for everyone:

If you enable BIG WU's then you won't be contacting the server as often, so you'll be less affected by the Stanford server issues.

All my boxes have the big WU's enabled and I've rarely run into the issue of the Stanford servers not being up for me.

Then maybe you setup the services yourself manually? Cuz I had the exe on my DESKTOP and when I did the config to make it run as a service the entry it put to start the service was definitely c:\program files\... so needless to say the service didn't start, so I moved the exe to where it wanted it and it then ran.

Anyway, I gave up with the service and will just keep it all simple with consoles.

As for task manager, maybe I didn't see it because that was when the service never even got started due to the above problem.

As far as getting more computers... no thanks, I've no doubt this FAH has made my electic bill go up as it is.

Your problem sounds really weird and unique regarding the service, you can shoot me a PM and I can give you my number so we can fix it if you want.

I'm going to see if I can get another Mac onto the team
