The console version is supposedly more stable than the GUI version, but I think it's really just a personal preference.

The PS3 firmware is at 1.7 (latest).
The F@H software for the PS3 is at 1.1 (latest).
Two different things, make sure you are updated on both regards.

Stanfords servers have been *beaten* by the massive response by the PS3 folks. They are almost about to hit 1 PETAFLOP of computing power -- which is insane. They are also experiencing major server issues as random hardware is going down and the Stanfords IT department is going nuts. It's great

Just let the machine run, if it doesn't fix itself in a week then let me know and I can help you trace the problem.

I was kinda bummed that my ATI video card (a Radeon X800 XT w 512mb) isn't supported with the GPU client. Anyone using the GPU version?

Trying to build a case to upgrade my video card but I don't really need it

By the way this laptop still can't grab a WU. Same error as above.
There are 3rd party programs that monitor the progress.

Personally since I have a Mac, I use a program called Increase

It lets me monitor all the systems on my network. It's very easy to use.

Since I know you have a linux box and Windows box, you can take a look here to see what tool you'd like to use:

I think all my machines are running as "Machine ID #1." Is that an issue?

Give me your Lexus, you don't *need* it
I'm waiting for prices to drop on the X1950's and I think I'll pick a few of the up. It's only a matter of time until they can be had for under 100$! I hope...

Nope, not an issue unless you're running more than 1 client per computer (like on an older multi-cpu system like me, then you have to make sure each client has a seperate machine ID).

I gave up with the service option.

vraa - thanks for links to options for monitoring, but if I'm going to use a third party monitoring tool why not just use the GUI client!?

Anyway, on my Linux box I do fine just letting it run as a console so that's what I'm going to try (not as a service) on the winblows boxes.

This laptop still can't get a WU.

I forgot to mention that Paul... We have F@H running as a service on one of our home servers, but the two I had problems with over the weekend were initially started as services, but when I re-launched I just started them as the straight up console version.

Installing it as a service makes it "hidden" in a sense.
The 3rd party monitoring tools can monitor a lot more than just 1 machine

Installing it as a service on Windows should be a *breeze*.
Just download fah504console.exe, put it into the folder you want to run it in (usually c:\fah1) and run it. Then answer the questions truthfully (haha) and you're done. Then when you restart next time, F@H will be running but you wouldn't be able to tell (unless you look in task manager).

Dave, you're not waiting for further price drops? Because I'm going to wait until the R600 comes out, I know that's going to cause price drops for sure!

I am having the same issue on a computer I JUST set up.
That is confirmation that its not your computers its F@H.

Thanks Dave. Running now as a console only hasn't helped. Oh well, 3 of 4 machines right now are crankin'.

I know, thanks, I did it already. Some other points:

When installing it from a folder it HAS to be "c:\program files\folding@home\" because that's how it sets up the service entry no matter where the executable is. At least that's what happened here.

Also, when you look in task manager you won't see FAH running as a service. You have to look in the services control panel.

You're at 75% capacity.
You need more computers, that way when one isn't working, it's not a big deal.
