The SMP client is godly -- they do almost 1000 points a day!
It takes a little work to get it running and it's a little ugly, but for the hardcore user it's no sweat.

Noo!!! I switched to the SMP client on my Desktop. Now it seems like I'm not putting out as many work units. Unless this is a huge work unit i'm working on. hahaha GIVE ME AT LEAST ONE DAY OF BEING #1. LOL j/k I'm almost there. =x

Which is better or rather faster:

Core Priority idle or low?

Although the SMP client does less workunits, they are much larger and because so reflected in the points value of the workunits -- about 10x the normal unit. Much tighter deadlines (3 or 4 days) than the regular workunits (upto several months).

cpone: As for your question, both are about the same speed, it's just a matter of preference (if you're running multiple distributed computing projects, you might want to put F@H on Low so it gets higher priority than those running on idle). In the end, it's just part of the OS to make sure F@H doesn't take over your computer and make it lockup.

cpone and pinoy - man you guys have stepped it up huge... way to go.

My lowly boxes here have been left in the dust. I did actually stop it on my desktop here though because I felt it was slowing stuff down. My my 2 servers keep plugging away.

man, the power in my house went off yesterday so i wasn't folding at all for like 10 hours. and the thing that sucks is that when i turned on my desktop and started the smp client again. it said "94% done. the deadline has past, moving on to the next work unit". i just want to be #1 for at least for a little while =x

Man I have done almost as many WU as Eternity and I am not higher?
How does this thing calculate points cause I have 20 machines running this thing and I should have had more points by now.

Eternity is higher than you probably because he's done more points. Different workunits are worth different points.

http://fah-web.stanford.edu/psummary.html
You can see the worth of each workunit there.

http://kakaostats.com/usum.php?u=934836
According to that, you'll pass Eternity in 3 days

BTW, you'll also get more points for doing bigger workunits (an option in the client). But if you take more than the deadline length, you won't be awarded any points (because it'd be past the deadline for the specific protein run you were working on, they need them back at a specific date so they can run their tests).

Do you really have 20 machines running it? Mad props! What are their specs?

Ok I need to get larger units!

All random specs. Most are 2meg processors with 512 ram.
Have only 5 of them on service mode now. Waiting on this one to finish tonight to put it in service mode and get 5mb plus WU.

But my PS3 is by far the fastest.
IT cranks out 1 WU every 8 ours. Its done 23 WU already on it own! crazy! I wish I could get my stand alone PC's to do that.

My next fastest would be this one adn like 4 others:

AMD AThlon 1.9 with 1gig ram.

I have 4 more with either 1 gig ram or 2 gigs ram.

MY PC at work has 2 CPU's at 2.0 each and 2 gigs of ram.
It used to be our old server till I got the BEAST we have now.

I got two SMP cores running with a few little tweaks We'll see. My Athlon64 X2 OCd at 3ghz seems to crank out the BIG workunits in less than a day. Good job tho! I figured when you passed me so fast that I'd never even keep up. But we both past Eternity3G today:
