Default Shock won't compress for removal

Hey guys,

In the process of putting in coilovers, but the front driver's side shock won't compress for me to remove it. All videos show the shock just kind of falling out, but I still have tons of pressure on the shock. I have tried lifting the control arm with a jack and releasing while trying to pull on the shock, tried using a flat bar to pry it out, etc with no success. Anybody know a trick or am I doing something wrong here?

if you have the coils compressed, take a strong screwe driver or small diameter metal rod and stick through the bolt hole where you removed the bolt and use force to move back and forth to see if that will move it a loose
