Default New shocks needed? / 2008 GS 350

My car has 80K miles.

Can really notice the bumps , vibrations, etc.....

Is this a shock issue?

Is this typical at 80K miles?

Any thoughts, comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Yep, I just did my wife's last weekend. she has 91k on it. Needed it around 85k. I went with the KYB shocks from Rockauto and they are identical to the OEM ones I pulled off there. The fronts are very easy. The rears are a pain but not that difficult. You have to unclip the trunk liner to get to the strut tops in the trunk and you also have to undo the rear fender well protectors. a bunch of bolts and clips on that.

The ride is much nicer now. You may also want to thinnk about changing out your transmission fluid at this point as well. Plenty of DIY's on here.

theres no set mileage that a part will go out on. what do you mean by "notice the bumps"? Does the car bounce more? You can always go to each corner of the car and press down on that corner at the wheel and see how it bounces and rebounds.

I think mine's was done aroud 80k. I don't abuse my car. I go slow on dips, and I avoid bumps and sudden elevations on the road at all times.

Still had to have all 4 replaced @ 80k(ish...I forgot but it was around the 80k range).

The insides of the front tires were beginning to wear. The front struts were definitely dead. Rears were not that bad of shape, but still replaced them.

I don't believe that's indicative of bad struts. I would suspect your toe was off.

Could be, but the driver side front was leaking juice and the passenger side was very weak.

yeah it's bad... lol.

Usually bad struts cause EXCESSIVE wear, most of the time it's chopping.

Get it on a hoist, and see if they're leaking. Actual fluid will be coming out of them.

I'm shocked [no pun intended] the 3GS struts are such junk! 80k miles?! Struts should be good for at least 100k mi. and that's on 'bad' roads... what the hell did Lexus put into these things.
