Default Gs 350 awd

I have a 2008 GS350 AWD. Just clicked odo at 60K, and had service at dealer. Subsequently right rear "shock" is leaking and needs replacement. Dealer recommended replacing both rear shocks. Price quoted about $1.100 parts and labor. Dealer quotes shocks at about $400 ea. plus labor. Does this make sense? Assume the shocks are special with traction control possibly? Seems a bit high but maybe it is what it is. Any advice. Many thanks WillSulliv

I think you're in the wrong GS generation but either way it might be best to get a quote outside the dealership. Keep in mind dealers tend to pay higher over head cost, although that does not explain the high fees that the consumer needs to pay. You might not even need new shocks, that's why it is best to get another opinion from a reputable shop. As for the parts, because they are Lexus specific from the dealer that will also cost more. Do you know which shock seems to be leaking? Check for yourself.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. Awfully nice of you. Leaking shock is the right rear. Shock is clearly problematic as it id leaking light weight oil on the garage floor under the right rear wheel. I am going to talk with the service manager and then get a second opinion as you suggest. Again thanks. WillSulliv
