Default Springs to Drop Your GS

Here are some specs for the most commonly used Spring for the GS 350 RWD;

1. Tanabe NF 210- drops front 1.1" and rear 0.8"
2. Tanabe DF210- drops front 2" and rear 1.8"
3. Tein H tech- drops front 0.8" and rear 0.6"
4. Tein S tech- drops front 1.4" and rear 1.1"
5. Eibach Pro drops front 1.3" and rear 1.2"

So, the Tanabe DF 210 is the most aggressive drop while the Tein H is the least aggresive. If you have 18" wheels a more agressive drop would look real nice without clearance issues as reported by CL members. Similarly, a
19" wheel with proper offset and tires gives you choice as well (the Tein S or Eibach seem good). For a 20" wheel tire set-up the NF 210 or Tein H seem pretty good.

Yes, your car looks nice with the Tein H techs. But, the fender gap is a little less with the Tanabe NF 210's. My 20" wheels and tires arrive next week then time for the drop. I appreciate your post and pictures because I was all set on the NF 210's but now am seriously considering the Tein H tech's as they drop "just enough" with 20" wheels.

Anyone have comments or opinions on the Spring issue? In the real world there is no "free lunch" so the more agressive the drop the more likley you will have some rubbing on occasion. Those NF 210's look good and the DF 210's look even better but at what price? With the DF 210's the cost is more rubbing (not saying all the time but a full car load or dip in the road or hard turn) and stiffer handling (some might like that).

The 20" wheel set-up like Fl Lex seems suited for the Tein H tech or NF 210's.
Now, I need to decide which one to get. The rubber sleeve on the Tein H and the decreased risk of rubbing has me leaning in that direction.

This forum has been EXTREMELY helpful. Just a few weeks ago I was convinced 20" wheels and tires wouldn't work on the GS 350 RWD without modifying the fenders. Now, with the help of Mesca and FL Lex I firmly believe the correct set of wheels (proper width and offset) and tires (Mesca has been my source here) combined with Conservative Tein H tech springs allows the use of 20" wheels without rubbing. Nice.

Thumbs up

i got the h techs going on this week. I went with them bec I did not want rubbing . The tein h techs with a 245/30 in front will never rub, the 245/35 will be close . I am thinking of waiting until thew car is dropped and seeing if I have enough clearance to run a 245/35 in front. all of the rubbing Ive heard of with a 245/35 has been with the tanabe springs. overall the best thing to do is to stay within 3 % of the stock diameters or radius and you should have no rubbing

if it rubs then fix it. its not that hard...

DF210s for the lowest without buying coilovers. No rubbing on stocks... on 20s maybe. With my set up I am thinking it will rub more with the outside then the inside.

I have the same issue, Tanabe NF210s or Tein H Techs. I'm leaning toward the Tanabe NF210s b/c they are so proven w/20s.

the rubbing doesn't have to do with the fact that you roll on 20's...it all has to do with offset and tire size. I'm sure I could run 22's and not rub if I had some 22x7.0 and ran 215/25/22 or something silly like that.

Oh btw, the DF210's have the spring insulator to help reduce noise.

Oh so that's what that was on the springs! I was wondering.

My friend's GS350 on 20" Asanti wheels. The wheels were made exactly for an ISX50, but it fit his car. He is also on Tanabe DF210s. He had to do very little modding to get it not to rub. He is currently on 245/30 and 275/30 tires. The rear quarter panel lip was grinded down a little and the front fenders where rolled only on the top part. No more rubbing.

SUBJECT: NO RECOMMENDED SPRINGS FOR GS AWD MODELS by Tanabe or Tein
I8ABMR & All,
A few days ago I8ABMR you recommended I check w/Tein to see if the HTech springs will work on AWD models. They said no & that they are looking for someone in their CA area with an AWD to test on. When I pressed them on the negatives using the HTech springs they responded with:

Thank you for your interest in TEIN High Performance Suspension products.
Unfortunately, we have not tested the AWD model of the '06 GS300 for compliance with any of our current product offerings. Additionally, we believe there may be design differences between two models, and would not recommend installing any spring kit onto a vehicle it was not specifically designed and intended for, as this could be a potential safety hazard.
However, we have noted your inquiry and can contact you via email in the event we release products for your application in the future. Please feel free to check in with us anytime regarding current or future product availability.

-Staff @ TEIN USA INC.

Tanabe stated basically the same message.

Looks like us AWD owners who don't want to runs the risk of potential problems using aftermarket springs made for RWD GS's will have to tough it out. No one in Cali will have an AWD model.
