Default Help with funny squeaking/scraping sound....

hey Guys,

I was just driving slowly out of my apartment earlier today with the window down and I could hear a scraping sound like metal being rubbed against metal coming from the right side of the car. I am not sure if it was from the front-right or from the rear-right of the car, but the noise was pretty loud. If I applied some brake pressure, the noise elevated. The scraping sound was circular in nature by which I mean, you could hear the scraping was caused by something turning round and round as the wheels were moving forward. When I put the car in reverse, the sound went away.

I am almost positive that it was caused by the brakes, but I need a 2nd (or 3rd and 4th!) expert opinions about this matter. I've only had about 19,000 miles on the car. Should I be changing the brake pads or the rotors already???? Or is this a more dire problem like a warped rotor? What do you think?>

Hmmm..stoptech, endless, brembo........

umm..... this is tough.... maybe you can have a second person outside the car looking for the sound? maybe there are doubles in your brakes so you can grip it well? tons of possibilities

Wow! It turns out to be both my rear brakepads! The right side was completely gone so it was the metal pad housing that was scraping against my rotor!!!! The left side was going as well.

I've replaced them and now the problem is fixed. Phew.

Yeah, man, I think the top of my right rear rotor was "eaten" by about 2 or 3 mm. The problem was aggravated because I was driving around town quite a bit that night! Darn it!

hahhaa yeah baby nah, serious though, new rotors stock size shouldn't be that much. plus if you don't change that, it's bad for the pads too

I think it's rare but within reason for front pads to wear out this early but not rears! You may want to contact your Lexus dealer or Lexus Customer Service about this. Maybe you can get them to pay for your rotors.
