Brake Pad Replacement Frequency on '07 IS
I drive an '06 IS but I have a friend that drives an '07 with about 94,000 miles and, to his knowledge, the brake pads have never been replaced. That seems insane to me so I've been reading up on replacing brake pads, but these articles are never model-specific. I don't have my owner's manual and I was having trouble finding the '07 manual online so I was curious if they give a mileage for how often brake pads should be replaced for an '07 IS? I should also note, we drive in LA, so there's a lot of stop-start traffic. His brakes don't appear to have any problems oddly enough.

From my experience the factory pads wear out in about 30,000 miles or so, however there was a TSB to replace the pads that came in the car with low dust pads. These low dust pads wear significantly slower than the high friction pads that came in the cars from the factory (they also take less out of the rotors).
If his car had that TSB done by Lexus, I could see the pads lasting much longer than the factory high friction pads that came in the car originally.
Driving habits also change the frequency of pad replacement by large margins.

Yeah, I bet the low dust pads were installed before he bought the car. That makes a lot of sense. And you're right, he's a pretty relaxed driver.
