Default IS350 brakes on fire

Ok so I changed the pads out for the Akebono 1113/1118 ProACT pads and everything went smoothly. Once I finished I took it for a test drive to break them in but immediately upon leaving the driveway it felt like the E-brake was on. By the time I got to the end of the street I saw smoke coming from the rear wheels and pulled over. When I walked to the back of the car I saw the pads were engulfed in flames. I blew out the fire and let them cool down for about 25 minutes before making my way back to the house. Once I got home I noticed the reservoir was leaking brake fluid.

I've been trying to figure out why both rear calipers would lock shut like this. I wondered if it was a programming issue where the car wants to reset the caliper pressure back to where it was so I disconnected the battery and reconnected it. On this test drive the car felt amazing with no brake issues. Then I park, reset the windows and take it for another ride. Once again the car feels like the E-brake is on.

Any Ideas?

are there supposed to be any kind of spacer between the caliper bracket and the hub assembly?

I dont remember there being any type of spacers, did you compress the pistons back into the caliper and bleed the lines?

Yes to both. There is actually still play between the piston and the rear pad. the front pad however doesn't fit at all. I got the specs for the factory rotors this morning and I will be checking the dimensions of them when I get home. It seems like the calipers are just sitting too far behind the rotors so, either the rotors are too thick or I will have to add a spacer between the caliper and the bracket. It is only off by about 1/8 inch.

I thought this was a common problem where the rear caliper seizes? I didn't have problem changing out my pads though

^Some don't seize up 100%, so you can still get SOME movement out of them. When one of mine were 100% seized solid, I installed new StopTech Streets in the rear, and like the OP I had a BUNCH of smoke...but no fire thank God. Replaced the 32k miles calipers with new OEM calipers and have been good for 66k+ miles.

Frustrating problem. I wonder if there is a dimensional difference between 2WD and AWD on the rotors before and after 2010?

I have an 07 IS250. Had to do lots of research when I upgraded to AWD IS/GS350 brakes front and rear. Check my post as I had some links to Lexus part number databases that helped with compatible cross references.
