Default Big brakes and dust shield

For all you guys who have done a big brake upgrade, I assume you had to remove the dust shield. Do you have any feedback on the pros and cons that have resulted from this? Thanks.

With the brake shields the brakes will get less cooling.

I kept the dust shield but cut to have bigger opening for the caliper. I also had to bend the edge of the shield to avoid hitting the big rotors.

Thanks guys. Isn't the purpose of the shield to keep the dust from going into the "inside" components like the shocks, ... Without the shield, would there be long term problems with dust getting into crevices and stuff. I realize that these are exterior components and should be able to withstand external conditions. Still, the shield has its purpose, right? Or, is it just overkill by the manufacturers and we can really live without it?

Agreed! Though with all the dust the Pagid's put out it *almost* makes me wonder...
