Exclamation 98 GS300 Brake cylinder question. HELP!!!!!

Hi everyone,

I have a problem with my 98 gs300. Car is making a "motor boat" noise and my friend said it might be caused by the master brake cylinder. Note: car also makes a beeping noise while driving and my friend told me the master brake cylinder needs to be replaced. Can anyone shine some light on me as to if this is true or not? Thanks in advance.

It's true most likely but it's not the end of the world.
All '98 owners have probably replaced their BMC by now.
Get one from an 01+ GS.

Good luck

Yeah the master cylinder/brake booster on these cars is not your average vacuum base. It has a motor that goes bad and needs replacement.

One more question, how much does the BMC usually go for new and/or used? and for labor, what would my grand total be?

New? As in from a dealer? Fa-Get-Aboudit (lol)
It'd probably be more than the current value of you car.

They run anywhere from $250-$600 used depending whether you buy it from a bone yard or ebay.
Just make sure it's from a +01 GS or SC

Labor at a Lexus dealer? Fa-Get-Aboudit (lol).
I'd say an average mechanic might charge you +-$400?

Honestly, it's not that difficult to install yourself; just bolt it in, bleed and done.

PS - If you drive it here to Jersey, I'd install it for $250

Good luck.

installing it is easy, just undo the 4 brake lines and remove 4 bolts. The more time consuming is bleeding the brakes.

The reason why it's very expensive is because the brake booster/master cylinder/ABS modulator is all integrated in just one part. Most cars have these 3 things separate.
