2007 IS 250 AWD w 210,000 miles. I am hearing the clicking/clunking sound from the rear. CV joints need replacement and I'd like to tackle this myself. I have access to a lift and any tool you can imagine. I searched but did not find any how-to threads. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Are you experienced in rebuilding CV joints, or are you talking about just replacing the entire half-shaft? I'd recommend replacing the entire half-shaft.

Whatever it takes to fix it. I'd like to get some sense of what's involved. Are there any resources?
The noise I am hearing is a nearly constant thumping, louder when cornering. The car is stock.
Here'a a picture of the grease that has been slinging out of the area. It is NOT caused by a leaking rubber boot. The leak is closer to the center of the car as shown. This picture was taken after I removed the metal clamps, cleaned up the boot area and shot some grease inside. I put new stainless steel clamps on. I was hopeful, but this did not solve the clunking problem. A couple of questions:
-Does it appear that I need new half-shafts?
-Can anyone offer advice on the repair? Don't worry, I know what I'm doing, but have never done this!
-A link to the necessary parts would be great!
Assuming I need them.... Where to buy? O'Reilly (has to call me back), Advance Auto (does not carry them), Auto Zone (none in stock and none available to order), eBay (used only, not for me), multiple other on line retailers (front only), can't find the rears anywhere!
Oddly enough I only found "new" front AWD half shafts. Good luck on sourcing the rears; not sure why there doesn't seem to be any on the net at the moment.
as mentioned in my early post, I was able to remove the 2 metal clamps then slide the boots out of the way. I then packed quite a bit of axle grease into the cv joint housing. I then reinstall the boots with new stainless steel clamps. the clunking noise continued for a couple of days but has now stopped completely. I believe it's possible that there's nothing wrong with the CV joints. They were simply dry. Of course the new grease will also sling out of the CV joint housing eventually. I am planning to cover the area with perhaps some rubber sheet material then add an additional clamp where the grease has been coming out.
If you are able to find out where the grease is slinging from, you can try to apply shoe goo around the area in order to prevent any more grease from escaping the boot.
I had grease slinging from one of my rear CV boots a while back but after locating the source of the leak and applying shoe goo, the rear axle shaft has been clean ever since.

No - they are not available rebuilt anywhere. Noise is back on my car. I am considering buying used and taking my chances. At least I would then have a spare set that could be rebuilt.

Note that for your car, you need shafts from a 2006-2008 IS250 AWD. RWD axles are different.
