Default BC coils...what junk.

Just feel like venting for a bit. So I have two, yes two sets of BC coilovers for my IS350..

Both sets are used. One set I bought from a local seller, the other I removed from a trade in at my dealer.

Well both sets are noisy as hell. Clunk around etc. BC doesn't want to assume any responsibility because they were bought used. Understandable.

I decide to bite the bullet, I call BC this past week to order four replacement cartridges. The employee was very nice, asked why I needed four, I exclaimed my issue about the noise. He proceeds to tell me he has never heard of this before (bull****) but will be sending me the struts. $95 a piece. He then goes on to say they "redesigned" the front struts and they are basically all now the "extreme low" kit. I was confused, but he assured me it would be okay. I received my struts promptly.

I throw my rears on (3rd time) doing this. Noise seems to disappear from the rear . So yesterday evening after work i decide to throw on my front struts. They're wrong. They are too short and unless I put the car on the earth, They would only have like two threads holding the cartridge into the bottom cup. So i had to reassemble them and throw them back on the vehicle. Now I have to wait until monday. Call BC and sort this issue out. I am tired of companies not standing behind their product. They say what the need to say to get me off the phone, and once they have their money they cut and run.

The clunking is very common. I wasn't aware that they changed the fronts. I haven't seen any of our vendors mention that.

How many miles are on the coilovers?

Just make sure your preload is set correct when you reassemble it. Clunking can come from lose spring setting.

They are dated from 2011 and the others seem to be from 2012. The set I bought I was told had around 3000 miles on them. No telling from the set i pulled off the trade in car.

I agree. I bet they didn't have the fronts in stock, or something along those lines. He just winged it and said they will work. They WILL work, if I wanted my car to drag subframe. But I can't safely have them at my original height (tucking tire on 19s)

It is. I've installed tons of coilovers. I get it right on every time. I even watched BC's own video about how to set preload and what not. It's dead on. Its the coils themselves.

When he told me he hadn't heard of it I just rolled my eyes. Type in "BC coilover clunk" on a google search and watch how many different forums come up with the same problem.

I have a set of 2011 BCRs with 40k+ miles on them; no noises whatsoever.

Only issue I'm having now is the driver's side front shock needs to be replaced ASAP. The dampening adjuster is nearly rock-hard to adjust now. What is the phone # you used to speak with the BCR rep?

Thanks!

I just called the number off of BC racing North America. There is a menu that will direct you to sales or technical support. I spoke with sales on the phone and tech support via email.

^Thanks! I'll have to give them a shout here soon. Luckily the ride quality hasn't changed; but there's got to be something wrong seeing the dampening is nearly impossible to turn now.

Hmm... I have recently installed BCR coilovers and never experience any issue. I hope the tech from BCR will resolve the issue for you.

Great bargain, but they aren't too durable. I look for suspension systems can go airborne without worry. Good luck.

I used to have them on my M5, but they would only clunk a little when it was raining out.
