So about a month ago I replaced my worn out front pads. I was running the low brake dust pads but decided to see if the Lexus high-friction pads would perform any better. I knew there was a risk of more brake dust but wasn't really concerned now that my wheels are dark grey. Boy, was I wrong!!

Every time I washed my wheels the brake dust would be straight back on there after just one 30 mile trip! Here are some before and after photos....(the build up is from a weeks worth of driving)

You're probably thinking that I ride the brake pedal but I'm actually very easy going on the brakes. Now I can see why there was a TSB for the front pads! Oh yeah, also, I really could not tell any difference in performance between the 2 types of pads.

I have just received my new low dust pads (thanks again to Sewell!) and I will be putting them in next week. I know it was 60 bucks down the drain but figured I would easily spend that on wheel cleaning products over the next few years!

I lasted like 5,000 miles then I said to the dealer, "No, no, no. You keep those. Gimme dem low dusties."

LOL, no, the after photo is about 400 miles worth of driving. I work 12 hour shifts for 7 days then I'm off for 7 days, that's the first chance I get to wash my car. But, the first 30 mile trip after the wash, I can see a build up of dust.

A few customers have told me that they prefer the low dust versions but I wasnt aware that these produce that much brake dust!

All that dust There are certainly solutions for Hi Performance brake pads that don't produce the enormous amount of dust you are seeing. I drive an ISF and have Ferodo DS2500 compound brake pads on the front. I luv 'em. Really great performance, and less dust than the OEM Brembo pads that came OEM on the F.

I like the high friction pads better, but will probably look at aftermarket pads the next go around.

There is something you can do to make things easier on yourself though - my regimen is to take the wheels off & clean them using Sonax, then dry & put on a wheel wax (l use poorboy's). Detailed image sells both products & is also a site sponsor.

Makes washing off the brake dust much easier...
