Default 97 SC4 Changing Brake Lines Today

Hey
I failed PA inspection for cracks in rubber of brake lines.
Bought some OEM used lines off a member on here and am having them installed today by a friend of a friend with 7 years auto experience as a tech.
Anything I should look for or worry about. First time going outside of the dealership but a quote over a $1000 was too much right now due to family losses recently.
Appreciate any info on if its a fairly easy job and if I have nothing to worry about as long as he bleeds them properly and installs right.

Thanks guys

Jeezus $1000 for something as simple as brake lines!?
Its literally as simple as swapping out the old lines, then bleeding the lines so get rid of any air that may have gotten trapped in there during the install.
To be honest though, I don't know how much you paid for used lines, but that's a maintenance item you really wanna buy new. I woulda even upgraded to stainless steele lines while you were at it.

The one caution I would have for you is to make sure you don't get any fluid on the paint, as it will strip it off.

Auto parts warehouse has new rubber wheel lines also. PA inspection can be a PITA but cracked brake line hoses are dangerous.

Really! How do you secure the fittings to the hose. There is a lot of hydraulic pressure applied during braking.

You need a flare tool and a hand bender. Pick up some metric flare nuts, and copper alloy hard lines so they NEVER rust, and get to work!

Whoops. Maybe? I know the hardline are $300 a piece from dealer so the $1000 quote makes sense. The short rubber lines are MUCH cheaper from dealer so I don't know where that price would come from.

Just put some goodrich lines on my SC. feels SO much better. cost? about 120 + a couple bottls of fluid to bleed through.

protip: reuse the OEM banjo bolts. the ones that come with the kit aren't as good. they aren't bad, just not as strong.

So I was changing my front brake lines the other day, and when tryiung to connect the stainless steel brake line to the hard metal line. I noticed the thread on the hard metal line is stripped. What is this part called, so I can replace it and finish the project.

Flare nut.

You'll also need a flaring tool.

And neosporin for when you break your knuckles trying to flare the line while its still on the car.

My friend is building a classic GTO from the ground up, and I helped him do the hard lines. I had 0 experience with this and after watching him to it (bending, fitting, clamping, etc) it was stupid easy to do yourself.
Just look up some tutorials on YouTube, spend the $100 (or less) on everything you need and do it yourself. Not only do you learn to do something new, buy you have a ton of money (which you can use to buy yourself a nice mod for a job well done ).

So how would I replace the flare nut? And what size is it?
