I think every gs owner feels your pain, I too am chasing suspension issues. Have you replaced the front LCA bushings? Do you notice a popping noise while turning?

I am also chasing suspension noises now..lbj's new, uca's new, caster arms with new bushings, only old things are the lca's, but i'm not sure if they can produce that sound...i have a creaking noise when steering in low speeds and tight corners..which sounds like lbj's, but they are not even 5000 km in...checked everything today, no play anywhere. torqued the lbj's to 160-180 NM acc spec, even had the guys in a shop check it...w/o findings...
don't know what to do, if i should replace both lca's and if the noise stays the lbj's.

One thing is that I too killed a new set of UCA after less than 20K - new OEM parts installed but I did not grease them - I figured the factory grease was enough - I was wrong, I greased the next set and now it's ben years with no problem.

The steering rack bushings are also a big problem.

How did you know you killed them? How did u narrow it down to them being bad again?

Honestly it hasn't been that bad so I just haven't even bothered as Im always working and hardly drive it like i used to anyway. But I am considering changing the mounts again but I want to be sure because I definitely don't want to spend money for nothing

Do you get any wheel play? Jack up your front end, one side at a time, then hold the wheel at 6 and 12 o clock and move it back and forth. If you have movement, it's a bad wheel bearing. I had a similar problem and this fixed my clunks.

They had play in them, with the car in the air I use a pray bar between the spring and the top of the UCA (balljoint) and push down - if they are loose you'll see it.

just to update it was my driver side inner tie rod. After replacing I get no more clunking. These things go out REALLY quick. Mine went out in 20k Miles less then 2 years from the dealer. This time I bought Moog hopefully better quality then OEM.

Replaced both inner tie rods with moog a couple days ago as well. Steering is a lot stiffer now.

It's amazing how the tie rods completely eliminated my clunking and my loose steering. It feels so tight and planted to the road. Anyone with loose or wobbly steering over bumps change those tie rods!
