Default Anyone tried this with coilovers????

So a local shop in MIami that seems to do quite a bit of Lexus customization and the owner is a previous Lexus master tech told me today that the previous generation 2is coilovers are a direct bolt on and seem to provide a better ride quality then the ones designed for the current years and he cannot understand why nobody has caught on to this yet as they are a lot less expensive and easier to get your hands on. . . Anyone?

I don't know about the better ride or not. That would probably have to do with the spring rates but if they are interchangeable... that great news!

If its interchangeable a lot of company didnt even bother throw money in R&D...that just doesnt make sense to me. I know the front suspension is similar but rear is a totally different story...r u able to double confirm that ?

They are different. The rears on the 3is uses separate springs and shocks where the 2is uses coilovers.

He said the same thing but he uses it as a full body coilover anyways and eliminates the seperate spring. Witnessed it yesterday firsthand and it absolutely works. only issue is depending on the size/offset of the rear wheel it can hit the spring and you wouldn't be able to use that wheel or that suspension. . . his 10.5" Vossen +45 rears cleared it though

double and triple confirmed, fronts and rears work perfectly as long as rear is not way to wide or has a crazy aggressive offset because it can touch the spring but the standard 10.5" +45 that most people run on our cars does not touch the spring. . .

Stern, I told you who the shop was and you vouched for them pretty well, if you see this maybe you can throw in your 2 cents.

no F'ing way! thats crazy
I wonder if the top strut mount is strong enough to hold the weight of the full rear now that all the weight is fully concentrated on that point instead of the designed lower spring perch.

Wow i was about to say this cant be real but pics says a lot, i was thinking maybe the front but could never see the rear working, i actually love the 2IS suspension more than the 3IS i wish they didn't separate the springs in the rear....
