Default Brake Pad Performance vs. Dust

I drove BMW's exclusively for more than 30 years before buying my 2014 IS 350 F Sport. During my BMW days I tried just about every after-market brake pad available that claimed to eliminate the dust. Most of them did, in fact, eliminate the ugly dust. Trouble was, none of them performed as well as the OEM, dust producing pads. My new IS 350 F Sport has brake pads which work extremely well AND produce quite a bit of dust. I really appreciate the Lexus solution to this problem in which they simply put some dark bronze coloring in the wheels on these cars. The wheels still look good with quite a bit of brake pad dust on them. When the time comes for new brakes, I will not waste my time searching the after-market for dust free pads. Washing the wheels is far better than having mediocre brakes.

Thanks goodness the wheels are gunmetal and hiding the brake dust or I would be going out of my mind. I still might invest in some good ceramic pad to see if they are a good compromise between performance and dust. I had Brembos on my Acura TL and replaced the dusty OEM pads with Rotora pads and they performed well with MUCH less dust... but the did squeak for 20K miles...

Agreed. Ceramic pads suck for initial bite. You want good braking you will get dust.

Could you upgrade to the gs-f sport brake and use ceramics? Not sure if the gs and is are the same or not.
