Default Front wheel rub, stock wheels, H&R springs

Hello everyone,

I lowered my car the other weekend, H&R springs, stock sport shocks, install went well,no issues.

I am running stock rims with toyo proxes, stock size.

I didn't notice this at first (usually music is on loud), but when I am rolling at a a slow speed, I can hear a distinct rubbing sound from only the front left wheel. It is not a random rubbing noise, it is definitely in a certain spot and speeds up as the wheel moves faster.

Braking or not braking does not seem to affect it.

It is worse when the wheel is straight, so not rubbing on the fender liner.

It almost sounds like a bushing, but that wouldn't really make sense with it only making the noise on specific parts of rotation.

I checked the tire for any damage or any rocks/nails, but it's all good.

Going to take the wheel off this weekend, but hoping to have some ideas first.

Here's a video:

If your liner was undamaged before, after removing the wheel you should be able to see the rubbing marks/holes in the liner. Basically your best bet is to heat the area and push it back as best you can; or just remove it altogether like me.

I have Road Magnet Springs and the F Sport shocks on my car.....recently my car fully settled and i noticed that on the front left side on sharp turns it rubs thi inner liner. There is a phenom called the "Lexus Lean" that i have read and been told by several reputable members of this forum. Unless you go coilovers that is an event that will plague us "spring" lowered cars since we cannot evenly lower the car.......but I say that he rubbing is worth the handling i get outta my lil beast. Food for thought

Seems weird that it is making the noise more when the wheel is straight and not when it is turned...

I also don't see where it could be hitting the liner. When I visually inspect it, it has a nice gap all the way around. It also doesn't really sound like fender liner rubbing/

Any other possibilities?

I haven't watched the videos but check to see if you install your suspension correctly. It could also be a bad wheel bearing

Sounds like the brake shield is rubbing against the rotor... Take the wheel off and turn the rotor by hand to see if its rubbing.

Hmm... doesn't sound like metal on metal, but I will definitely make sure to check for this. Thanks!

I lower 1.4 inch front (with Eibach) which is the same like your H&R together with stock sport shock. I even put 8.5 rims in front with 225/40R18 tires and no rubbing at all. Are you sure it is the tires that rub?? put some chalk on the tires and then drive... if the chalk print on the fender, then you know that area rub.

Alright, I took the wheel off today.

Definitely not the wheel rubbing and not the brake dust plate. With the car jacked up, I would spin the wheel and would not hear the noise.

It is something that only makes noise under load. And I feel like it is a rubber sound, like a bushing, but I can't see how a bushing would only make noises once per revolution of the wheel.

I am thinking possibly a tire issue? I inspected the tire for damage, but it looks fine. Ugh.

It's a bit embarrassing driving with this.

Is there a chance this could be a wheel bearing?

WhenI am driving, I feel like there's an extra "whirring" noise coming from the front of the car. When I ask friends they just think it's regular tire noise... but I don't think it is.

Any for sure way to test the wheel bearing?

Well, I guess I am talking to myself, but I think I found the issue.

Swapped my other rims on and the noise is gone. Must be an issue within the tire.

I'm glad that you find out that it is not the wheels nor the tires so it must be other thing. Do you have a video of the noise? One possibility is something being loose somewhere ??

No, it ended up being the tire itself making the noise. There's a video in the first post if you are interested in hearing what it sounded like.

I plan on taking the tires off the stock rims and turning them into a winter set. Interested to see if there's any visible damage inside.
