Help with brakes and rotors on 2009 IS250
I have a lexus IS250 that needed brakes done on the front. I bought pads from O'Reilly Auto Parts and they were incorrect, but were for a 2009. They pulled the ones for a 2010 and they were correct. Then, the rotors could not be turned so the adventure of finding the right ones began. They asked me if the car was assembled in the US or Canada. I took a guess, because I didnt have the vin with me. They were to thick for the calipers to slide on all the way and bolt back up so apparently they were the wrong ones. However, the VIN indicates it was assembled in Japan, not US or Canada. Any advice or suggestions? At this point, I am returning the ones I bought last night and figured I would try the ones for assembled in Canada.
Thanks,
Tony

got it finished
The pads the part store had for an 09 were different than the ones for a 10, but they matched up to the old ones. As far as the rotors go, I tried the ones that were supposedly for the canada assembled and they were right. The reason I used them is because Lexus wanted $95 each and O'Reilly's were $30. I'm not sure why O'Reilly's showed it a US or Canada option instead of US or Japan.

Almost all Lexus models are made in Japan (the only exception being some RX models made in Canada). What they were referring to was which country the car was destined for.
There are 2 types of IS250 front brakes, they either have 28mm thick rotors or 32mm thick rotors, and which ones the car has can vary depending on year and country the car was meant for. The calipers, rotors and pads all need to match. For North American IS250 sedans:
2006-2008 USA models use the 28mm rotors (produced from 08/2005 to 09/2008).
2009-2013 USA models use the 32mm rotors (produced from 09/2008 to 04/2013).
2006-2010 Canada models use the 28mm rotors (produced from 08/2005 to 08/2010)
2011-2013 Canada RWD models use the 28mm rotors (produced from 08/2010 to 04/2013)
2011-2013 Canada AWD models use the 32mm rotors (produced from 08/2010 to 04/2013)
Models with the 28mm rotors came from the factory with the high-friction (and high-dust) Textar T4146 brake pads (low dust alternatives were available from Lexus after the fact). Models with the 32mm rotors came from the factory with the low-dust NBK D6893H brake pads.
Models with the 28mm rotors use the same rotors for left and right while models with the 32mm rotors have directional cooling vanes and so the LH and RH rotors are different.
The brake calipers will have a mark on them stating which type of brakes they are (either marked "60-28" for 28mm rotor type or "60-32" for 32mm rotor type).
I'm not sure what the parts store was giving you, but it sounds like their listings were probably a bit goofy. Your 2009 USA-spec car should have 32mm rotors, which are the thicker type, so if they gave you rotors that were too thick, I don't know what they were from. Your car can't use the 32mm (USA-type) pads and also have the thinner 28mm (Canada-type) rotors, doesn't really make sense, but their listing might have just been wonky.

we are huge fan of POSI's for everyday/daily driver applications.
they perform great over stock & are a very realistic pad for normal street use.

I just replaced the front rotors and pads. I ordered everything from Autozone and came in with in a couple of days. The issue was that when I went to put them on, everything was incorrect. The shipped pads were very small. So I took them in and per the specs they were the correct size. But we pulled the pads from a 2008 and wala, these were what I needed. The same came true with the rotors, they were 28mm not the 32mm as in the book. Rears were the same. It would be nice if Lexus would give the parts companies correct information on what parts they may need.

Lexus has no responsibility to give aftermarket companies any information, it's up to them to have the correct information. Why would Lexus help the competition?
There may be some MY2009 USA-spec cars that came with the 28mm front brakes (possibly about 1 month of production before switching over), take a look at my production date changes above. If there is ever any question as to what your car has, you should either measure what's in there, or look at the mark on the calipers, it will say 60-28 for the earlier USA-spec cars and 60-32 for the newer USA-spec cars.
