Brake Dont Stop The Car - Help Please
The other morning I went out to my car and started it like normal. As soon as it started I hear a loud pop. I didnt think anything of it and continued to drive.
After a few miles I noticed that the brakes were not stopping very good and I am having to pump the brakes to get the car to even slow down. There are no visible brake fluid leaks and the brake reservoir is full.
When pushing on the pedal I hear what sounds like liquid(or air) moving very rapidly. This seems like the biggest clue since the sound is constant as long as I hold my foot on the brake.
Has anyone had this problem?
My car is a 1998 SC300.
Cliffnotes
1. Pop when starting the engine. (this only happened once)
2. Brakes go all the way down to the floor (have to pump to stop the car to stop)
3. When stopping you hear a liquid (or air) movement sound that is constant the whole time you have your foot on the brake pedal.
4. There are no leaks (the brake fluid reservoir is full)

Your brakes are hydraulic so that's why you're only hearing the noise when you first start the car.
Your brake master cylinder is toast. Though you don't have any leaks, it's broken and not doing it's job. Shouldn't be too difficult. I would get a new master cylinder over a used one. That's one part of this car that I would prefer to be brand new when replacing.

I think the air you are hearing is coming from the brake booster. I would inspect it also. While you have to tear it all down, I would replace both of them and then bleed the system with some DOT 4 or 5 fluid. Starting from the RR, then LR, then RF, then LF. Do this until you see clean fluid throughout the entire system. The brake booster is the same for the SC300 and the 400, if I am not mistaking. It is around 100 bucks from advanced or Oreilys.
I have both of them if needed. PM me for further.
