How long do master cylinders last for? Anyone had one go bad?
Getting around to doing my front brakes, lexus told me a caliper was jammed and needed replacing, found out I was just a stuck slide pin, but anyways my brake pedal is extremely mushy and you have to press down pretty far to brake, it does still brake fine but my friend told me that can be a sign of the master cylinder going bad, I think maybe a brake fluid flush could be the issue, how long do master cylinders typically last? Are they an issue on the GS? Mine has about 191k hopefully that isn't even the case though he was just speculating

not to sure if they are interchangeable but I recently had to change it. but mine got to the point where I had to mash the pedal on the floor for the car to stop. don't wait till you get to that point! its very hazardous, I almost rearended someone that wasn't paying attention and braked at the last minute.

Mine isn't that bad, I can still stop fine, I'm hoping changing the brake fluid will make the pedal a little more firm, but just curious how much that cost you? I kno their like 1600$ new but on eBay I've seen em for 4-500 used are they tough to install?

Hey,
I have a 2001 GS430. Mine just died at 167,000!! not bad. When I took it apart a piece of the comutator had broken free. The hydraulic motor was the fault. Ordered a used one. Easy to install. Need 2 people to bleed the system, makes it easier. best luck.

What are the main symptoms for this happening?
I just did a brake fluid flush done because of a soft brake pedal and low brake fluid level. The brake fluid level has gone low again (in between max and min).
Is there any way to pre diagnos this?
