Default Brake pedal issue? Bad fluid or worse?

I recently replaced all the pads and one of the brackets, my car brakes slightly better than it did before but i still feel like I have to press a little more on the pedal than what it should be, the car does stop fine and I've never come close to an accident from it but it still bothers me especially high speed freeway braking, I'm wondering if anyone else has had this and if bleeding the brakes could help give some more firmness to it or worst case scenario the master cylinder is beginning to go

Lukas99GS,

I've just completed a MC/ABS replacement in a 2001 Gs430 which I will post separately. I learned tons and searched this forum extensively!

Bleed your system first. Do it right, see if your pedal comes back. When was the last time the fluid was changed?

what worked for me was this.

Car off. pump pedal 40x steady pumps, pedal should get hard. turn ign to "ON" you should hear your pump cycle. it will go off after 25-30 secs. Leave "ON" pump about 5-7 times. depress pedal open bleeder to FRONT PASS. do this until no air is observed. Turn key to off. pump pedal 40x. check and fill. turn key "ON" hear pump cycle. wait til it goes off, then pump 5-7x and bleed FRONT DRIVER until no air is observed.

pump 40x. key "OFF" check fluid level. now do back. key "ON" depress pedal open bleeder, the MC pump will do the work. bleed until no air.

key "OFF" pump 40x check and fill fluid. key "ON" bleed the other rear until no air.

last time. key "OFF" pump 40x check and fill fluid to MAX LINE.

take a ride and see if the pedal is less mushy!

Hope its only older fluid. That would be the easiest. if you find out it is your MC do some homework. I just posted my replacement MC in the Brake section. i used a complete unit from a SC430 in the GS. No problems and it was purchased for less than what you can get the GS for.

have fun under the car.

Even Sewell shows a huge difference. These are New OEM. Sewell is the best place to order. I've used them for years.

2001 GS430

47210L 47050-30220
BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY, W/MASTER CYLINDER 01 In Stock $2503.50 $2503.50

2002 SC430
47210L 47050-24060
CYLINDER ASSEMBLY, BRAKE 01 In Stock $1540.09 $1540.09

The PNC 47210L is for the complete unit for both cars in both diagrams.

Crazy.
