Default 96 SC400 Power brake booster woes

Its taken me months to find one. The replacement I bought from Rockauto doesn't fit.

A1 Cardone 53-6005

We had to adjust it as far as it would go to make it fit. Air got trapped in my brake lines after a few minutes of driving. What the hell? I was working under a more experienced mechanic, so I'm not 100% sure of what exactly occurred, but the part doesn't work.

Now I'm wondering if my used SC has a master cylinder from a different year So the next question is if I should buy one from the dealership, or take my chances on a used one.

All years have the same master cylinder. You need to bleed the master cylinder when you remove it. Although when replacing the brake booster, it's always a good idea to replace the master cylinder with it, cause the booster usually contaminates it and the seals are no longer good. I bought my refurbished master cylinder through AutoZone, comes with lifetimes warranty and complete instructions. Then I took a chance with a booster from the junkyard, and got lucky. Good luck.

Ah wow, thanks. Your post and your thread on the subject helped more than all of my independent research. I only have one question for you. Is the booster you bought a Cardone? If it is, I believe I need to find a new mechanic. He couldn't make it fit.

No, the brake booster I bought is OEM from a wrecked SC in the junkyard. I decided to take a chance on it 'cause brake boosters doesn't normally go out. The refurbished or replacement boosters also cost a lot. I got my booster for like $60.
