Default "V" clips on brake pads

I was changing my front brake pads this weekend. When installing the new pads, usually I put those V clips on the pads, squeeze them together, and wrap the pads and the v clip with rubber bands before I put them into the caliper.

Then I cut out and remove the rubber bands so the clips stay in the pads while I get the pads back into the slots in the caliper - that's always worked well for me.

Unfortunately, before I could wrap the rubber bands around, one of the v-clips decided to catapult itself away and escaped to some dark corner of my garage and is still successfully hiding itself from me.

I've read where some people just don't bother with these v clips anymore - Has anyone put their pads in without those things and not had any additional wear/noise ?

I go to the dealer and get new ones whenever I find they are missing.
I wouldn't go forever without them just go to toyota and grab a replacement they aren't expensive.

Probably wont make any significant difference.

You sure go through alot when changing pads, I usually put the pads in position on the caliper/rotor then put the V clips in by hand afterward.

Wow talk about me making it more complicated.... I remember the first time I did it on that car it didn't look like there was enough room to get the clips on after the new pads were in but I'll at doing that next time...

So you found the V clips? There's def enough room, remember, you have to flip open the caliper to make space for the pads.
