Default SC400, Late Understeering At High Speed Normal?

PROBLEM SOLVED! THERE WAS A LOOSE BOLT ON THE STEERING RACK!

Hi,
At high speed, my 95' SC400 seems to understeer. I have never pushed another SC hard so I don't know how normal it is. It seems that after cutting the wheel as much as it seems like will be needed for a turn, as I get partially through the turn I have to cut the wheel more to make it through the turn. It happened with both sets of wheels and tires and before and after the alignment. It feels pretty normal at lower speeds but above 80 MPH it gets my attention a bit. The previous owner mentioned that he Just put a new rack on last summer.

Does this sound like a worn part or bad adjustment?

Is this a handling characteristic or a mechanical issue?

Can't really find anything in search here or the web except for one other guy on a different Lexus forum with the exact question but no answer.

Thank You For Your Time,

SG

Thanks N2LXUAL,
I won't overlook the rack. I will call him and ask him about it.
EDIT: I asked him, he said everything else logical was done at the same time (pump etc.) so there are few things it could be. All he could come up with was ck for air in the lines.

I'm having the same issue. Once I got my steering rack bushings replaced with polyurethane it went away. Now the center bolt on the steering racks keeps loosening on its on. Once I re-tighten that bolt the understeer goes away.

PS I'm on kyb struts with eibach springs.

Thank You!
How hard is it to get to those rack bushings? How much might a shop charge to swap them out? I'll try that right away if it's fairly simple.

Before I went at it myself, a shop told me 1-1/2 to 2 hours of labor.

It is not hard at all. It is definitely something that can be done with hand tools and jack stands. I went with the ast polyurethane steering rack kit.

One way to tell if it is the bushings is that your steering feels loose.

INK,
Thanks.... It's a tough call as I have driven few SC400's. It feels pretty normal cutting into the turn, it just feels unpredictable halfway to 2/3rds through the turn, like it WAS on rails but slipped off and wants to go straight again until i re-cut the turn. It does not JERK back out, just kind of smoothly requires more cut. This is just at high speed...... just where you DONT want any unpredictable behavior. I am going to have a look under there myself even though I don't know what i'm looking at/for yet.
Gotta start somewhere right?
