Default Megan Coilovers: Pillow Ball Upper Mount vs Rubber Upper Mount

Hi guys,

I'm starting to think I made a mistake going with the pillow-ball upper mount that comes with the Megan LPs. They are a good design for racing and limit deflection under extreme cornering, but unfortunately they just aren't as durable as I would like.

If you do a Google search you can find literally dozens, maybe even hundreds of posts from various forums where people are complaining about rattles, pops, popcorn sounds, creaking, etc with the pillow ball design. Many people note that everything is nice and quiet for several months or even a year or two, and then the annoying noises start. Some of the time it's just the 17mm nut at the top of the mount coming loose and needing to be tightened back up. But other times that pillow ball mount develops play and no matter how tight you make that 17mm nut, it will still rattle. It also seems to be temp/weather dependent which is also annoying.

Since my car is 100% street, I think I'm pretty much done with this pillow ball design and prefer to "down-grade" to the quieter, more street friendly rubber type upper mount that come with the Megan EZ coilovers.

I called Megan to place an order but they are out of stock and don't expect to get more for as long as 3 months. Does anyone know a source where I can order these rubber upper mounts? Of course I need them to be compatible with my LPs.

Thanks!

Forgive my lack of coil over knowledge. Is it possible for you to remove the pillow ball mount and press in a rubber mount?

If so, I just replaced my Ksport Kontrol Pro coilover struts this past weekend. I was given new rubber mounts but I didn't press them in. I can provide you the measurements of these rubber mounts so you can determine if they're compatible with your application, if you're interested. Let me know.

Thank you very much for the offer but I am pretty sure the aluminum plates are completely different between the two.

It probably makes sense to just get the EZ rubber hats from Megan. But I do wonder if there are any alternatives since Megan looks to be on backorder for so long.

Waiting on pricing and lead-time from Megan...

Can't believe these guys don't have these parts readily available since these are just the EZ mounts. Nothing special.

Put the extra money and get the BC. You wouldn't regret it.

I don't care what the brand is, I will NEVER run a pillow-ball set-up on a street car again. The noise problems out-weigh the tiny improvement in performance.
