DIY -- IS250 AWD Rear rotors and pad replacement (large pics)
I wanted to augment the post put together by grandamliz (https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sus...s-of-pics.html). I followed his post to do the job and I tried to add some things that will make the job easier or more clear. I replaced the rear rotors with drilled and slotted rotors from http://brakeperformance.com/ and OEM pads from irontoad.com. One thing that I would highly recommend for a job like this is an air ratchet. I used one with about 45lbs of torque from Harbor Freight and it work fine.

I tried to get all the needed tools out before starting the job
One of the first things I did was to loosen the lugs on each wheel. This is much harder to do with the car jacked up since the wheels want to spin.
You've got to jack up the rear placing the jack on the rear differential.
The 14MM nuts to remove the caliper were tucked behind it.
Notice the set up of the pads and clips before you disassemble it.
I took some brake fluid out before retracting the caliper. If you don't the fluid can overflow.
This is the caliper tool I got from the tool borrowing program at Autozone. I didn"t use this when I did my front brakes and I wish I had. I also heard stories about the rear caliper sticking on the IS so I wanted to be careful.
Make sure you double check how everything goes together. The clips aren't difficult but its more involved than on the front brakes.
Sometimes the rotors come right off after removing the caliper. Other times you need to use the bolts to "pop" them off
Like I said before...the air ratchet is a great help with a project like this.
Get the shims, clips and everything cleaned up with brake cleaner then wipe them off with a paper towel
Put a thin coat of anti-squeal on the back of the brake pads and the insides of the shims but not on the part of the shim that touches the caliper.
A quick check that everything is in place before putting the rims and tires back on.
I am pleased with how everything looks. Now if I can get my wife to stop scrapping my rims in the Drive Through....
