Default 1999 GS300 need Brake master cylinder

Hello

I own a 1999 GS300. few days ago while i was driving a buzzing noise came and Brake, ABS, VSC lights are on. Thank God i was really close from home and reached safe. After i shut the engine off, i turned it back on and now i have to press the brake pedal really hard to make the vehicle stop. i showed it to my mechanic and he mentioned my "brake master cylinder" needs to be replaced and it is very expensive. I would really appreciate if anyone knows or can tell me where i can get a cheaper/used "master cylinder" for my car as i'm not planning on keeping the car after i fix the issue.

thank you

I have the same issue.. the lexus mechanics told me that it cost an arm and a leg to fix it.. they told me not to worry about it if I don't mind not having abs brakes which frankly I don't care for, BUT i will warn you take it slow on rainy days, ive had my car spinout on me 3 times and all have been close calls.. the pedal isn't as soft as it should be but you get used to it. I did have an issue where at one point my brake pedal was locking but a brake fluid change fixed that..

The local mechanic shop specializing in lexus... a brand new brake master cylinder from lexus will run you easily $1000+

http://lexus.sewellparts.com/oem-cat...S300-1998.html

the assembly runs for $1500 more or less brand new from lexus..

then lets say the shop charges you 500 for the fix...

Your looking at easily $2000 dollar for that whole fix ordeal..

You can also go the used master cylinder way too, matter of fact there is an entire 2002 black gs being parted out now..

depending on the price he gives you for the master cylinder then maybe your looking at $1200ish for the whole cylinder and installation the used route..

now I wonder if 2001+ master cylinders can work with 98-00 gs?

What do you mean by BMC?

I've done my research believe me but there is no way that you can tell me that a 98gs with 200k and still the original master cylinder will need to replace only a sensor..

BMC = Brake Master Cylinder

What ****-adkt is saying is that your mechanic is wrong. You should NOT keep on driving like this. Your problem does not only affect the ABS function! If you want to keep your car, replace the unit.

You can find used units from 01-05 GSs for around $500.

YES! The only difference is the 01+ has a sensor and the 00 - below doesn't. Say so in one of the threads.

Welcome.

The 01-05 BMCs are redesigned and, supposedly, have a much lower failure rate. They are almost entirely plug and play. I believe there is one sensor that has to be changed. I am not 100% sure, but there's more info about this on the forum.

One thing is sure, your unit is on the way out. When it fails completely, you will be without brakes.

edit: Haha GS4_Fiend beat me to it.

My unit at the moment is only emitting the buzzing noise, no lights or anything, but the pedal feels like its slowly getting softer (dont know if thats my imagination or not) and the frequency that the buzzing comes on is increasing (not my imagination, it used to come on only after prolonged braking, but now it sometimes comes on when Im not touching the brake).
Need to get a 01+ BMC assy but wreckers here are retarded and when I call up asking for an 01+ gs300 BMC and NOT a 98 - 00 they say yes we have one in stock, I get there and its a 99 -___-
Hope one comes up soon though, loosing 95% braking pressure when it finally does go doesnt sound fun.. Also 100% agree with ****-adkt.. your lexus mechanic sounds worse than the wreckers i deal with...

Oh I see the big picture its more then just abs affected.. basically a hell of a hazard... I too hear the buzzing noise but not frequently at all.. only when I'm about to drive off that I start the car
