Default help a n00b understand coilovers

I did some research thanks to all the posters on this great site and after some googling it appears i want these coilovers based on the popular feedback.

Here is a link, i think its the last 4 , from TEIN...
http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/perf...sion/Coilovers

Now i'm not exactly sure which out of the 4 of these i'm in need of and it would be great if i understood what the numbers were meaning.
(98-05) Lexus GS430 14k Front/12k Rear (4) was 14k, 12k etc... mean? i also have no clue if i need other things with this...

I know some of this might be personal preference and i am guessing if i want the stiff sport or the softer 'comfort' model. i suppose i'm looking for what is better for the car and in addition what is now going to fix this 4" gap on my front after i replaced the stock wheels. Keep in mind i live in nyc and overall i am good at dodging pot holes there is always unexpected... any suggestions would be a big help, ill also mentuon i have not decided to purchase from the site listed and i'd like to stay under $1000 if possible. also need an installer but that can come later.

thanks guys.

there are a TON of different kinda of coilovers. you need to know what YOU want, soft or harsh ride, daily driven or track use, $2000 or $700 etc. once you know what you want we can go from there.
from the hours upon hours of reseach i have compiled the megan lp's are the most affordable with the wides rage of settings (from soft to hard 32 way adjustable) (i dont however know how many spring rates they have? anyone wanna chime in) with BCR coils and TIEN coils coming in at a close second. just do more reseach and you will find what you are looking for.

A lot of truth in this post. Although I can NEVER say Tiens come second to Megan

1 thing to think about is why do you NEED adjustable suspension?

If you don't plan on needing to change it up, think about a nice spring/strut combo. I usually use this application in the winter time. But change to coilovers for track days in the summer.

My current winter set-up is tanabe NF springs with KYB gr-2's. GREAT ride, and the stance looks good too.

Just food for thought.

Good luck, and do it right the first time!
