How do you know when thry need replacement. I have 79,000 miles

The lifespan of struts varies. It all depends on how you drive your car and in what state the roads are. My GS300 has 110k miles and still running on stock shocks. They still are perfectly fine at this mileage.

How do you know? When the ride quality degrades significantly (bouncing for instance). Or have a look at the struts and check them for leaks.
