Default Help: Brake noise wont go away!

I notice noise coming from the front passenger brakes when I apply the brake pedal. Twice now I've taken it apart and applied brake grease to the shims and pads, which eliminates the noise temporarily, but after a few weeks, the noise each time comes back. I can also hear slight rattling from the same caliper when I hit bumps in the road. I have a feeling it may be loose shims, but I don't know how to resolve this. It's driving me crazy.

Anybody ever have this issue or have any suggestions to help me resolve this.

have you replaced your pads? if so did you have the rotors turned? maybe you ride the brakes a lot?

No, I don't need new pads. The pads and rotors are fairly new. I've been having this noise with the old pads and rotors, causing me to think that I need to change my brakes, so I changed everything, and the noise is still there.

Maybe the sliders pins are frozen and don't release the caliper quick enough?

As for the rattle, is the caliper securily bolted to the bracket?

I checked my brakes a couple years ago ( about a year after I bought the car) thinking I too needed pads, when I went to pull them off, They were silicone on by previous owner... Maybe they had the noise too

If I understand correct what the sliders pins are, check whether they are on their place as the upper one differs from lower

I need to figure out what slider pins are, cause I have no clue. What I thought was a slider pin is not apart of the brake assebly, so my assumption of slider pins must be wrong.

As you see on a scheme one is MAIN other is SUB. Seem when you were changing the pads the pins were mixed.
We had the same problem here

Now I'm confused.
I am about to do my front brakes - never took them apart ( '01 GS 300 )
but this shows main and sub pins with the same part number.

What gives?

And -- which is the best DIY for '01 GS 300 front brakes?

The DIY's I looked at were for different models - not for '01 GS 300 specific.

Thanks

I thought the same thing too, but when you go to sewells site, they have different sub-part numbers and are also priced different:

Thanks - now which is THE DEFINITIVE DIY for front brake pad replacement for a '01 GS 300?

http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/brake/fbpad.html

This is a clear DIY but it's for an 90-94 LS 400....

me too... brand new rotors and pads and it's squealing. Good thing it's an LS brake, so I can easily take it off and put some anti squeel... it didn't come with the brakes when I bought it.

brembo blanks+FERODO.

upgraded rotors were not cost effective.
