Default GS300 How to Drop?

Is dropping your car as simple as replacing the springs with a special kind of spring?

I know nothing about dropping it and therefore not sure if it's something I could do myself or would need to pay to do. My car has 18" wheels and about a 3-4 inch wheel gap that I'd like to reduce.

If you get coilovers you can swap out the whole unit and be able to adjust your ride height in the future if you want to go lower or higher w/ aftermarket rims. If you want springs than it's just swapping it out with a lower spring. ilWhile your in there might as well replace your shocks/struts with blisteins.

Can you point me to where I could find coilovers and are these easy enough to install? I've never done shocks or struts and heard they were a pain. I've done lots of other non suspension related work though.

i posted up a similar thread a few weeks ago. i got some good help too, hopefully your getting some good help too. i wouldnt mind more help, as i dont know anything about springs, coilovers or shocks or anything related to suspension or dopping a car.

how much does it usually cost for a good (by good i mean, quality) and what parts do you REALLY need. a lot of people suggest a ton of stuff which ends up confusing me on what is really needed to get the car a few inches lower.

Yea from what I read it seems confusing, expensive and hard to do. Maybe I'll just get 19's and call it a day. There will still be a 2-3 inch gap though.

Get some lowering springs man... Not that expensive, check out eibach, tein, tanabe, h&r etc... Depending on the drop you want, you can get that specific spring. They are all good...

Depends on what your budget is..... You can get a nice coilover kit for about $1000. Ideally if you get a kit that comes with everything including the shock mounts then its a job that can be done in your garage because its just a remove and replace. GL

How hard are the springs to do? That does seem a lot less complicated the the coils.

Coils are easier to install because it's one whole unit in most cases unless you get Tein SS coilovers. For spring install, you'll need to compress the old springs out and that will take a bit more time.

You need to define your budget and goal. Merely 'reducing wheel gap" is not enough information. I can suggest you springs that will drop 1" and you'll end up wanting a 2" drop, or vice versa. I can suggest you springs with drop you're looking for, but the ride will be either too soft or stiff.

As for coilovers and springs, figure out what your priorities are. Everyone here loves coilover, but it's a huge waste of money if springs/shocks can do the same job. Many will say that for the price of a spring/shock combo, you can spend a bit more for coilovers. And they're right..a quality spring/shock set will cost almost as much as a sh|t coilover kit on ebay. True!

Could I replace the springs and keep my stock l-tuned shocks? Although they do have 65k miles on them at this point.

Yes you can, but you may need to take to a shop. You figure a the springs should run about $250-$350 and another $150 or so for a shop to install... I live in NY and coilovers are not made for these roads. I have tanabe df210 with kyb's and they been great thus far. I think I paid like $275 for my tanabe's and the time...

Good point. The roads up here in Mass are beat up from the winter also. So springs might be better for beat up roads?

haha yah i was thinking about 19"s and calling it a day too, but there would still be that gap that makes it look ugly

i want a decent drop to make it look good with 19"s (not too low) but just a good enough drop that it looks more sportier, but deff i want to keep as much of the luxury ride/comfort that i have on all stock right now.
