Default Which Shocks & Springs for lowered but comfortable ride?

Hi guys,

I'm after a Spring & Shock combo that will reduce my standard ride height by around 2" but will keep as much of that smooth Lexus ride.

I've been advised by a shop to go Bilstein Shocks with Eibach springs, I'm just hoping the ride won't be too harsh with this combo, is there any other shocks and/or springs I should ask for?

Thanks in advance,

d.

I had Tanabe DF210 with stock struts on my car and the ride was pretty nice. You should get coilovers just in case you want to go lower in the future.

Eibach springs will only drop you 1" all around, but they are smooth. What I hate most about springs for our cars is that most sets lower the front by 2", but the rear will only be lowered 0.8-1". What you get is an uneven gap all around.

My last set up was H&R springs and bilstein sports. Loved the set up firm and smooth not too harsh.

I'd say go with the Bilsteins + Eibach's
That's what the shop recommends so if there's a prob its on them!!! lol.

I have KYB with Eibach and the ride is pretty close to stock, just a little tighter.
And I'm happy with the drop. Looks even all the way around pretty much.

Just give the springs a few days to settle in.

What kinds of wheels you got on there BTW?

go coilovers, the difference in cost in the end isnt that much and with coilovers you can adjust dampening and height for comfort and form. So many people who start with springs end up with coilovers within 6 months. At least price coilovers first before buying the springs setup.

I believe these are the ones you can get on Carson's site for under $900, BC coils are just a bit more than that compared to the close to $700 you would spend on new springs and shocks.

I like rominl's statement about doing it right the first time or save your money until you can do it right. I did springs, went to coils right away, sold the coils after 3 years and then started looking at springs again, thought about why I was thinking springs and not coils and realized I was after saving $ and realized I would be back at coils within 6 months. I am getting ready to go back to coils next week.

Just grab a set of BC Racing coilovers and call it a day. The price difference is neglible...

A few vendors here carry them.

+1

I went from L-tuned (very luxurious ride, good drop) to Tein CS, now on Bilstein PSS. If I had to redo everything today from the information I have I would go BC. Great bang for the buck.

Im currently on eibach + kyb's with 18 wheels leaving 2 finger gap all around. when I was on my stock 16's the ride was almost close to stock, running over imperfections on the road was just slightly noticeable because of the fat tires. with the upgraded 18's now the same bumps i drive on daily to work and back feels a bit harsh now but as long as you stay around 20-30mph going over the dip/pitched roads its fine.

From alot of comments about the tanabes nf/df's they seem to be one of the softest springs out but drop the car about 1/4-1/2 an inch more than the eibachs after they settle. I have not personally sat in a vehicle with the df/nf's yet so i cannot give my 02. about them.
