Replace shock mounts?
Trying to decide whether to replace my front upper shock mounts or not. 99 GS400 with original struts and everything else in the front suspension and steering. I did recently replace lower ball joints, camber arms, tie rod ends. I'm going to do shocks in the near future and am wondering if it makes sense to replace the upper mounts just because they're old. Likewise for the spring/shock bumpers.
What do you think? I'll be paying for this work, not diy like the lbj's etc.

If you're going to replace the shocks/springs, it just makes sense to replace the strut mount. They DO deteriate over time so you'll see advantages (less noise). At least for me, anytime I get into something like the strut assembly I replace and/or upgrade what I can to enhance the ride.
A good shop should not charge you any appreciable amount for replace the mounts, as a matter of fact, if you're replacing the shocks it makes the job easier replacing everything at once.
Check out this DIY which shows how replacing the strut mount with the assembly makes sense.

There is nothing wrong with the shock mounts as far as I know. Just wondering if its a good practice on a 10 yr old/96K mi car thats getting its first strut change. The shock mounts arent cheap, so wondering if it makes any sense to do it. My goal is to get it as close to original condition and performance as I can. Best car I've ever owned and I plan to keep it running well as long as I can.
